I have been looking start a new project and noticed how isolated people are coming whether it is individuals or groups. I have always found it best to start by shooting something and seeing where it goes rather than wait until all the ideas are fully formed. Best not to talk yourself out of things as it gets you nowhere and of course nothing is ever wasted even if it ends up not being successful. Not sure at this stage if these images will lead anywhere. The Wall images come from the Isolation everybody is experiencing and how that seems to build barriers between people. Nobody seems to talk anymore and the more this happens the harder it becomes to communicate with each other. People now have a voice and many are happy to put it out there making the world a more divided and angry place. The Tied and Tide images is based on the idea that people of a certain age are cast on the scrapheap way too early. Here we have a line up of Artists, Sculptors, Musicians, Photographers and Theatre directors all with valuable knowledge that needs to be passed on but are generally ignored by the business world. Are they too expensive or just troublesome to employ? Yesterday Blake, Aliya and Rebecca took the train over to Kendal to see the current exhibition at @crosslaneprojects ‘Felt Not Thought: Works on Paper’, curated by @rebeccscott It was fantastic to see these large-scale works on paper - the raw and unframed surface allowed a direct encounter with the physicality of the body and gestural mark-making. The exhibition also prompted us to think more about returning to the felt physical encounter with art that comes before words and interpretation… which is exactly what we had been discussing last week in our reading group on Sontag. “Sometimes we assume understanding begins only when experience is translated into words concepts, or explanations. The title of this exhibition, Felt not Thought, gently unsettles tha hierarchy. It reminds us that our encounters with the world do not begin in abstraction, but in sensation. Before we understand, we register. Before we interpret, we feel.” - Michael Banissy. The exhibition ends tomorrow Saturday 4th July! We look forward to the next one at Cross Lane Projects! #kendal #contemporaryart #northwest #1838collective #exhibition
