Kicking off this year with a dream job produced and shot in early January 2026.

This one was a labor of love with a lot of help and support from friends and family. I had originally shot a personal project, Hockey Boys, on pond hockey culture over the course of two winters, 2018 - 2019. This past fall a Creative Director at ’47 reached out to see if I’d be interested in reshooting the same body of work in the same style integrating their product into the series to tell a story about a group of players getting together for a classic pickup game and a good time outside on the ice.

When we started talking about this commission in mid November 2025 it was unclear if the ice on the lake I had shot on before would be thick enough and safe to skate in early January so we pivoted and decided to do the project on a backyard pond with a much smaller body of water that we knew would be a safer surface to stand and work on so early in the season. Luckily with early winter low temps the ice was over 8” thick by our shoot date.

I became somewhat of a human Zamboni, literally walking miles and miles back and forth in freezing temps, shovel and broom in hand, on the ice for weeks, obsessed with keeping the ice surface clear of snow and smooth for our shoot date.

Thank you to my wife and kids for releasing me to the frozen wild to maintain the ice for weeks leading up to this shoot.

Thank you to my studio partners in Brooklyn for listening to all of my weather forecast updates.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this come to life.

And a special thank you to Eli Irving for believing in me and setting this one up.
