“Warriors” 1979 Directed by Walter Hill , Starring Michael Beck, James Remar, Dorsey Wright, Brian Tyler, David Harris RIP, Tom McKitterick, Marcelino Sanchez RIP, Terry Michos, Roger Hill RIP and David Patrick Kelly. A gathering is set for the gangs of New York in Central Park circa the late 70’s headed by Cyrus played by Roger Hill RIP with the intention of creating a unified front between the fragmented gangs who rule over their own respective neighbourhoods, “The Warriors” of the title leave their home territory of Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Brooklyn NY to attend the meeting in Central Park, a shot rings out and Cyrus is left for dead, the finger of blame is pointed at the warriors who must run and fight their way back to Their home territory, having to make their way across an assortment of gang territories to reach coming up against the likes of “The Baseball Furies”, or “The Turnbull ACs” or “The Orphans” each with their own unique themed attire, “The Warriors” are headed by the dark and brooding “Swan” played by Michael Beck and “Ajax” played by James Remar who is vying for control of the warriors over Swan and other members of the iconic New York gang with their own swagger and readiness to get bloody, the finger of blame was pointed by Luther played by none other than David Patrick Kelly a very familiar face on the silver screen over the years including playing “T-Bird” in “The Crow” 1994. “The Warriors is an iconic movie with a solid soundtrack that fits so well Directed with aplomb by Walter Hill, who has made a career as a director of gritty Thrillers including “48 hrs” 1982 starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte and also “Streets Of Fire” 1984 and “Red Heat” 1988 to name a few, also he is an accomplished producer having produced the original Ridley Scott’s “Alien” back in 1979. “The Warriors” was a testament to simplicity in it’s concept being so appealing, nowadays movie making is so meta, it looses that simplistic pull or “High Concept” idea, New York circa late 70’s and into the 80’s hadn’t been cleaned up yet and was gritty and dirty and unsafe and served as the perfect backdrop for this tale of a fight for survival.

“The Substance” 2024 Directed by Coralie Fargeat, Starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid, Edward Hamilton-Clark, Gore Abrams, Oscar Lesage, Christian Erickson, Robin Greer and Tom Morton. A cautionary tale in itself about the pursuit of eternal beauty, and everything comes at a price “The Substance” is about a fading celebrity in the twilight of her life Elisabeth played by Demi Moore is realising that the opportunities around her are on the decline when she looses her top spot as a Hollywood motivational keep fit goddess ruled over by a lascivious studio producer played by the ever watchable Dennis Quaid who literally lights up the screen with his smarmy sexist portrayal of Harvey. In a bid to capture that feeling of youth with all its trappings boundless energy, enthusiasm, endless nights and endless days, lovers without reflection ect Elisabeth comes upon an add for a black market drug that will rekindle youth and drive, she follows the instructions and collects this supposed elixir of life a fluorescent green fluid with a series of simple instructions, indeed it works Elisabeth on taking the drug leaves the shell of her former self literally on the floor of her bathroom undergoing a painful very physical re-birth to become Sue, who has everything that Elisabeth could ever dream of with youth in her veins and a body to die for, sue quickly rises through the ranks to assume Elisabeth’s top spot as workout queen, sue needs however to top up on “The Substance” to preserve the shell of Elisabeth’s body that lays as a fleshy pile in her bathroom, he duality is at odds Sue is consumed by greed with her new found lease on life, neglecting her other body in favour of her new found celebrity status, and so the decline or body horror of the situation begins. “The substance” taps into so many tangible fears in particular for ladies out there who are under so much scrutiny for vanity, and how the media portrays women, it touches on many sensitive situations, part horror at its climax infused with a thought provoking journey, Demi Moore shines on the silver screen given a second wind as a leading female star. Highly recommended to those who haven’t seen it.

“Dawn Of The Dead” 1978 Directed by George A. Romero RIP, Starring David Emge, Ken Foree, Scott H. Reiniger, Gaylen Ross, David Crawford, David Early RIP, Richard France, Howard Smith RIP, Pasquale Buba RIP andTom Savini. I was lucky to have had the pleasure of meeting George A. Romero alongside Greg Nicotero back at a very early Fright Fest hear in London what a warm and welcoming man in person and humble and personable, such a sad loss for all us fans out there. “Dawn Of The Dead” 1978 often replicated over the following decades, however Dawn stands as an iconic entry into the horror genre, part social commentary on a decaying society and part a balls to the wall unapologetic celebration on all things zombie, filmed with independent roots in a guerilla style of filmmaking that captured in an epic scope the spread of a virus infecting humankind, with a group of survivors from different backgrounds thrown together fleeing what remains of a city on the brink of apocalyptic collapse, headed by “flyboy” Stephen played by David Emge and Francine played by Gaylen Ross, and Peter played by Ken Foree, and Roger played by Scott H. Reiniger, they flee the city in a helicopter heading out to redneck heaven in the suburbs stumbling through various mishaps on the iconic monroeville mall, and hole up there waiting out in hiding from the impending doom as the dead close in on the mall and a ramshackle group of survivalists who have their sights set on the mall, with all manner of supplies in the deserted stores in the mall, “Dawn Of The Dead” features loads of quotable dialogue uttered from generation to generation over the years that followed still to this day it’s heralded as a classic, special makeup effects artist Tom Savini was coming into his own with stunt work and special makeup effects, it was a golden era of change, as we all prepared to welcome in the glorious period of the 80’s for the horror genre, Romero had already changed the classic image of a zombie to a very real threat from a relative or friend or anyone when he directed “Night Of The Living Dead” ten years prior to this in 1968 which was set in more restrictive locations. Romero will be missed.

“A Nightmare On Elm Street” 1984 Directed by Wes Craven RIP, Starring Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, Robert Englund, John Saxon RIP, Ronee Blakley, Amanda Wyss, Jsu Garcia, Charles Fleischer, Joseph Whipp, and Lin Shaye. As excitement builds amongst the fans of the “A Nightmare On Elm Street” the franchise for the forthcoming 4K boxset with various directors such as Jack Sholder, Chuck Russell, and Rachel Talalay all posting their progress or snippets of info for the remastered entries that they respectively directed in the franchise, Wes Craven’s original “A Nightmare On Elm Street” 1984 debuted some months back on 4K which has ultimately paved the way for this highly anticipated box set, as most fans out there of the series myself included only previously owned the DVD box set which is admittedly outdated now despite its excellent packaging design, displayed in this post alongside the USA 4K steelbook release is the box of souls from Death Waltz an excellent box set of all the vinyl soundtracks to each of the movies including excellent exclusive artwork for each movie itself, it’s a shame that this box set doesn’t have exclusive individually coloured vinyl as apposed to its uniform black colour, but nevertheless for hardcore fans out there if you can still purchase a copy I would recommend it, as by this point having a limited run it’s kinda pricey to purchase, Death Waltz records have made a Stirling effort to capture the spirit of the elm street franchise for the fans out there. Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare On Elm Street” 1984 gave us something different an evil in the form of child molester Freddy Krueger who stalked us at our most vulnerable during REM sleep, manipulating our dreams to form our nightmares, the gloves are off no pun intended all bets are off we die in our dreams we die in our waking lives, Robert Englund made the role of Fred Krueger his own, it’s hard to imagine anyone else doing the role justice, however the big studios attempted to do just that with the remake in 2010, which saw Jackie Earle Haley doing just that when he attempted to pick up the glove a weighty assignment in itself. Long live “A Nightmare On Elm Street” and its sequels❤️.

“My Bloody Valentine” 1981 Directed by George Mihalka, starring Paul Kelman RIP, Lori Hallier, Neil Affleck, Keith Knight RIP, Alf Humphreys RIP, Cynthia Dale, Helene Udy, Peter Cowper, Don Francks RIP, Patricia Hamilton RIP, Larry Reynolds RIP, and Jack Van Evera. Going back to a bygone era favoured by many many like minded folk the 80’s a golden era, when simplicity was the order of the day, a time of dusty old video store’s harbouring many hidden gems on their shelves in a collection of lurid VHS boxes some of which spent a sizeable amount of their budgets on the cover art set to tantalise Joe Public with spending their cash on a rental, even the so called turds of the day are now cherished as classics amongst the fans, “My Bloody Valentine” 1981 came from this era, it’s has been released in a variety of formats over the years with truncated versions leading the way to un-cut editions and ultimately to a 4K edition. A decades old folk tale told and retold for effect plagues the locals at the sleepy mining town of Valentine’s Bluff, the kids in town are planning a Valentine’s party to commemorate the towns name sake with cheap booze on tap and all manner of other shenanigans that go hand in hand with a party, decades before there was an explosion at the local mine that trapped six miners underground, one escaped “Harry Warden” in a deranged state he was sent to a local mental hospital, Harry escapes only to seek revenge on those he felt had the responsibility of the accident, now decades forward into the present circa 1981, gruesome copycat murders are plaguing the town, the local sheriff steps in and cancels the Valentine’s Day party, in an act of defiance the local youth go out on a limb and continue with their plans, only to fall fowl of Harry Wardens pickaxe as he dispatches the youngsters in typical 80’s fashion, with all manner of inventive and memorable kills, “My Bloody Valentine” keeps it simple and has endured many decades to this day to be regarded as a cherished gem, years later “My Bloody Valentine” was remade by Patrick Lussier in 2009 starring Jensen Ackles no less, as remakes go it was pretty cool and took full advantage of 3D.

“Renfield” 2023 Directed by Chris McKay, Starring Nicholas Hoult, Nicholas Cage, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Shohreh Agdhashloo, Brandon Scott Jones, and Adrian Martinez. Scream factory front and centre with newly acquired rights to releasing this odd ball horror comedy with a novel concept about Renfield played by Nicholas Hoult Dracula’s right hand man gifted with his own physical abilities gifted to him by Dracula himself here portrayed by Nicolas Cage at his scene stealing best, playing on the tropes of this timeless creature of the night, very much rooted in the present day New Orleans, Renfield navigates a self help group in order to distance himself from his toxic relationship to “The Prince Of Darkness” with comedic scenes aplenty, between Dracula and Renfield not to mention gruesome scenes punctuating the comedy, Renfield ignites a spark between himself and Asian police officer Rebecca played by oddball and very funny Awkwafina. I must admit that I didn’t enjoy “Renfield” as much as I thought I would, I liked the idea of it, the cast was a fun combination, and sure it was gruesome too, but it just didn’t ring any bells for me, however the visual aesthetic of the 4K steelbook and the Waxwork vinyl soundtrack captured an enthusiastic take on the movie, Waxwork vinyl again deliver another gatefold style of packaging with exclusive coloured vinyl on both LP’s another labour of love for the company created with enthusiastic panache and a gloss finish on the cover, Waxwork continue to be the leaders in reviving movie soundtracks❤️.

Goodbyes are not supposed to be these, goodbyes

I have started the slow process of saying goodbye to everyone who has been there for me in the best way possible (@superchargewithsuzan ,@marlaallcocks, @geidy18, @lyndacartercosplayer ,@markiepinkham4687, @americanfox12018, @razzi.maggie ,@modelcarolalt ) I thank you for that

I still want to do a podcast with @dfwwonderwoman (Please reach out to me right away)

The other day, I posted about the GoFundMe campaign that I am doing to improve the podcast and make it more exciting and having more guests and this person literally said that my podcast sucks. When I read it, I was totally devastated. Low production value and that "I don't need the money with the baby grand piano and the lavish furniture" in the background. That's actually a virtual background, not my actual living room. I live in a rooming house in Philadelphia. As much as I did my best to make these podcasts worth something, I have learned that it's worth shit.

I was doing this to expand the podcast to where the viewers could meet these former guests up close and personal but after what this person said, it was not worth fighting anymore.

I have decided to stop fighting and just give up because I know that I am not successful.

If you want the podcast to continue, please share this GoFundMe campaign with all of your social media

https://gofund.me/a6be4606

When I share it on my own personal social media, I get told what to do.

Just to let you know (@worldpodcastnetwork) that I left the Facebook group today and the rest of social media is next within the month of May.

Thank you for letting me attempt to provide you with decent entertainment and may God bless you all!!
