Imagine surviving childhood sexual assault, only to have the very person who failed to protect you become the face of a $4 million political attack against you.

That is what Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign is doing to Amy Acton.

And beyond the cruelty of this decision, think about the message it sends to every survivor who has been silenced, disbelieved, or betrayed by the people who should have protected them.

That even decades later, their trauma can be weaponized against them.

This is despicable. And it should outrage every single one of us, regardless of political affiliation.

No political ambition justifies exploiting someone’s childhood sexual assault.

We stand with Amy Acton and every survivor whose experiences have been used against them.

To every survivor of sexual assault: We’re so proud of you.

These past few weeks have been heavy. With so much conversation about sexual assault and sexual violence in the news and across social media, we know it can be a lot to carry.

We want you to know that we are proud of you.

For showing up. For speaking out, if you chose to. For setting boundaries, taking breaks when you needed them, and finding moments of joy even when things feel difficult.

And we’re proud of you for all the things that have nothing to do with your experience as a survivor, too.

We know there has been a lot of pain in our community lately, so today, we want to make a little room for hope.

What’s one thing you’ve done these past few weeks that you’re proud of?

Maybe you accomplished something you’ve been working toward, spent time with someone you love, tried something new, or simply made it through another day.

Big or small, we’d love to celebrate it with you.

If you feel comfortable, share your moment in the comments.

With love,
@ihavetherighttoorg

What’s the next small step you can take?

We will need big steps too but we should not dismiss the difference a lot of small steps makes.

A lot of this looks like unlearning some patterns of thinking and acting that we have been taught for decades. That won’t happen over night.

Here are some accounts I learn a lot from. Spanning masculinity, mental health, culture, consent and more. I am highlighting a variety of styles and approaches, find what works for you. Follow a couple that push your comfort zone too.

There’s now a free, private resource hub for survivors of gender-based violence — with hotlines and support organizations in one place, and no signup needed.

The online service is available in New York, with its developers planning expansion into other states.
