This year, the lake has seen an incline of #southernflounder
They are still the most inconsistent species that always come at random times.
The genetics of these fish are unique specifically to the estuary. The proportions are nothing like I’ve ever seen on flounder.
I did not measure this fish but I would estimate it at 25-26in and easily 8-9lbs.
I almost feel spoiled saying this is actually the smallest of 3 giants I’ve been so blessed to capture.
Another reason we need to protect Guana’s fishery the best we can.

About a week before the fish kill, the #speckledtrout were schooling in varying sizes from 17-27in.
Eating just about any artificial lure.
A phenomenon I have yet to witness in the lake.
We were lucky enough to triple up on 24-26in fish within seconds of each other right before an insane lightning storm.
A moment that made a memory for all of us.
Showing how truly special of an estuary Guana is.

Guana is being failed yet again. The county refuses to acknowledge the declining water quality and the mass fish kill that is currently happening. Coupled with the constant overfishing and seemingly nonexistent FWC presence this preserve, that is much more than just a fishery, is on the decline. Sounds like the same redundant story you constantly hear? Thats because it’s never been fixed. I personally will be contacting city officials in the coming days. Will you put responsibility in your own hands or just keep hoping and wishing something gets better. @over.slot is extremely informed about this topic and this fishery. Any questions I know him and myself would love to talk to you about it.

A beautiful #redfish that smoked the new @zmanfishingproducts mud studz.
This lure has been working exactly how intended and has an incredible swim to it. It can also be casted a mile.
I will definitely utilize this bait for the windier days ahead.

A dark and meaty #speckledtrout.
Most fish on this day were eating glass minnows and hatchling croakers.
The @nomadtackle_usa spectre minnows on a TT jighead was a perfect presentation.

The other evening I was chasing some redfish down the grass lines. I hooked one of the bigger reds I’ve been able to sight fish while wading but unfortunately the hooked pulled. Walking back I took one last cast down the grass line and caught this beautiful #southernflounder that was full of eggs. This fish had a giant undercarriage to it and felt around 7lbs.
Sitting in less than 1ft of water in thick mud.
Released to grow and produce more eggs.
