Last week was so special ✨

We got to celebrate the incomparable @marshmaryanne and the Rosedale dance program that she built from the ground up over the last 30 years.

We were fortunate to be able to perform in an alumni piece as part of the spring dance show which was incredibly special for me. First, it meant connecting with other alumni from graduating classes as far back as 1998. It meant sharing the stage with @maxine_kenneally which hasn’t happened for YEARS. It also meant a return to dance/performing for me for the first time in 5 years, which was a really big deal.

My experience in dance spaces outside of Rosedale was overall fairly negative. I was made to feel really small and these environments drastically eroded my self worth. It has taken a few years to actually process and understand the depths of this.

Re-entering dance through this opportunity for Ms Marsh and in the Rosedale environment was a really conscious choice. It’s the place I always felt supported, safe and encouraged in dance, and the place I had the most FUN. My time in dance outside of Rosedale really highlighted how unique this was.

Thank you @marshmaryanne for building such a special place. You have no idea the impact it has had on your students ♥️

So grateful my daughter chose to go to Rosedale Heights School of the Arts. This has been the best High school experience for her and so many. What a great bunch of kids and an incredible Team of Teachers under the amazing Mr Sketchley.

It was the end of an era tonight seeing the final Dance show led by The one and only @marshmaryanne ! I am so happy Saylah got to take dance with her. She taught her so much and gave her the confidence to take the stage. Maryanne always went the extra mile, took that extra step and made deep connections with her students …

I admire her passion along with all the other dedicated staff like John Blakey and The outstanding Britan, as well Ms Spykers & Ms Reidster and so many others.

The the Tech and Lighting crew - way to go.

To the dancers ..: we loved it. Your light and joy shone through.

I will dearly miss watching some of my favs other than my daughter @pigeon._.peach, including the talented and hard working @annie_pdpa.dance
@stevenj425 & Lyric to name just a few !!!

These dancers work so hard and are so dedicated it’s been a pleasure to watch their journey for the past 4 years which have flown by.

Congrats to all and to Maryanne… enjoy retirement … it is well well deserved.

I experienced a first and a last tonight: first time in the audience for a RHSA end of year dance show, and @marshmaryanne’s last RHSA dance show 😭

And what a beautiful show it was. I had constant goosebumps and many tears as each piece transitioned on. The words of @marshmaryanne’s past dancers echoing through the auditorium like it had a voice from years past. The grad piece haunting, with thoughts and feelings so closely resembling mine. Every word and experience so very relatable.

Extreme nostalgia and a feeling of my stage home came over me when I saw costumes and movements that were once engrained in my muscle memory.
Knowing the bustle of the gymnasium and the emotional rush in the wings, connected me to every dancer who I’ve never met - yet felt a connection to 💫💕

@marshmaryanne You are a force of nature and your legacy lives on in generations of dancers which is evident. But now as I saw last night, into the hearts of their children. You’ve created artists who are becoming parents of artists who will foster the same love and passion for their children’s creativity. And this, lives on and on - thank you for dedicating your life’s work at RHSA to us ♥️ and in return, your legacy lives on through us!

Oh do I wish it was “one day more” indeed!

Still basking in the joy and pride I felt watching our Gal perform this week in Les Mis at Rosedale Heights.

Thanks to the hardworking Teachers Mr. Blakey, Ms. Spykers and Ms. Reidster for guiding and coaching Saylah through this journey. I could not go without also mentioning the wonderful @marshmaryanne who first inspired Saylah with confidence when she joined Dance back in Grade 9.

The Staff at Rosedale are stellar. Thanks Mr Sketchly for guiding your Team and Students to Excellence.

The driving force behind all this Magic seems to stem from the ever present, calm and smiling Britan - Wonders of wonders … dedicated and hardworking … he spent hours helping to design and make the sets with the students.

But this show will not have been accomplished without all of the MT students who worked night and day, hours and hours; even many full days on weekends.

Thanks also to the Admin crew who help to support all@rhis school does.

Watching everyone’s growth has been beautiful.

I can’t believe Saylah will already be graduating soon.

She was so lucky to get to attend Rosedale. We highly recommend for anyone who has the performance or artsy vibe.

Also shout out to the amazing Moms I met through this adventure. Proud Drama Mamas!

Lastly, Saylah… all your hard work sure paid off. You really did blow everyone away with your powerful stage presence. Still can’t believe you also helped as a Set Head and a Makeup/Hair Head.
