The Great Big Cookie Run 🍪 2026 edition

The race where it felt like everything fell into place.

Since Army Run Half I’ve been hitting the paces for my intervals and tempo runs. The cooler weather has helped but also my mind has been in a better place.

No longer in the world of ‘Can you do this? Why are you trying so hard?’ … but more in a world of ‘yes, you’ve got this, keep going, finish strong!’
It’s amazing what a difference a shift in mindset can do -and I think the accomplishment of finishing strong and feeling great in Army Run really made me believe in myself again.

I’ve been able to see myself as a runner again and that I can be going for lifelong PBs, not just post partum PBs.

And with that everything fell into place this morning.
I had a great week of a slight taper.
A great run with an amazing friend letting me know I’ve done the work -it’s time to fly
Scheduling meant a hockey practice had me up early to the rink, but that also meant I was awake, had time to eat, had time to think about my game plan for the day and not just roll out of bed to race.
The drive was smooth and so was parking and getting my bib and bag drop.
Start getting delayed only meant extra time to warm up and for the sun to warm me up a little more.

… like I said, it was one of those races where everything fell into place. And this brought me to an official time of 23:30 (Strava time of 23:17 😉) which is 3:22 faster than when I did Chase the Pace back in June. I don’t even know what to say 😊

Floor Sheridan is ready for @runottawa The Great Big Cookie Run tomorrow! This has been the race I’ve been centering my summer training around and what I’ve been gearing up for all season.

Last year I ran cookie at 35 weeks pregnant and this year I am running it at 50 weeks post partum. I’m hoping to be in and around my former 5k pb time before thing 6 came around.

Let’s see what happens tomorrow! No matter what there will be cookies so I’ll be happy! 🍪

FOMO? Never heard of her because when you don’t race, you cheer!

Soaked up all the race day energy, sprinkled in cheers, cowbells and pom poms and shared it back with the runners.

A fun filled @towaterfront42k Race Day starting with a Sunrise Yoga on the Overpass 🧘🏻‍♀️🛣️🌇 with @kardiaathletica powered by @asicscanada led by @catchingheather before cheering on the runners at ~18.5km with @kardiaathletica and @blackrunnersofthegta

In the afternoon, I made my way to the east end to check in to the Caboose Crew, something I had been looking forward to signing up for since last year. I got to continue cheering and accompany runners to the finish line, sharing some of the many memories I’d made with the run community over the years 🫶

Cheering on as many runners as possible, maybe all of them ✅

Another day of this runner’s heart being full ❤️

Congrats to all the participants on your races! Thank you to @runcrs organizers and race partners, volunteers, and supporters for a wonderful race weekend 🎉

9runrun - perfect crispy cold day for a 10K PR 🥹❤️‍🔥

Why are you crying mama? I saw my son at the finish. My husband hadn’t told me they’d come, but here they were. I bawled like a baby. Second son arrived, confused by my tears. Mama, are you crying sad or crying happy?

Mama (snif snif), is happy 🥹😭🥹

(Earlier)

Walking out the door to the first frost of the season, i second guessed the shorty shorts under my sweatpants. Aw well 😂 Drove to the race, bathroom, warm up, nervous bathroom, a few strides. A-skips, B-skips. Core was warm, air still crispy cold as i waited last minute to hand off my pants and jacket. Perfection.

I lined up close-ish to the start, meh, not really. Gosh i don’t really know how it’ll go. Marathon legs had recovered well, i did a few speed sesh to work on the turnover, but my Garmin, again, showed me no love. Time prediction hadn’t flinched. Win the inside game Deb, beat it !

Settled it smoothly in the first km. Music fully blasting this time. I locked in to the runner in front of me.

Believe you can pass them.

(Train of thought)

Every position counts, i told my XC team just last week. Whether first, 20th, or 70th, you accumulate a point per position. The team with fewer points wins. I have wide variety of athletes. Some who race from the 8min/km, and others in the 3min/km. Yet the inside battle is often so similar: when things get tough, believe in yourself, believe you can catch up to the next person. I spend my last easy runs going over this little speech i want to tell them before our next (and first official) competition.

At km 2, locking in to the next runner, it all came to mind so clearly. Time to practice what you preach !

Target.
Pass.
Target.
Pass.

Some took longer to catch up then others. Doesn’t matter;

Target.
Pass.

The half marathon runners started coming back strong, followed by the 10km leads. Out and back courses are a favvv! I tried to count the 10km women before I turned. 11th, ish. New target in sight, make it to the top 10 Deb!

(Swipe to next pic for part 2)

Turquoise bandana, i wish I had her name. Since the start, she was leading and passing at the same rate as I, always a little in fron

@towaterfront42k flat lay

Last race of the season but also my first real race of the season.

Thanks to @tcsnorthamerica I get to opportunity to lace up and hit the start line of this one!!

It’s been a summer of sidelines and switching to shorter distances. I’m excited to toe the line and be a part of the big race start line energy.

I will only go as far as my knee will go comfortably using my run and walk pacing that I’ve been running all summer. It’s just so good to put together a longer race flat lay.

Good luck to all of my @runnerschoicewaterloo teammates.

My eyes are still on the big prize of Tokyo in March.
