Big G is the living heartbeat of Bay Area Hip-Hop, bringing over 30 years on the drums and 20 on the turntables with that rare combination of precision, power, and pure funk.

Berkeley born and Oakland raised, this true B-Boy moved to Covelo at 14 and taught himself to recreate hip-hop beats live on the drums when he couldn’t get the records. Steeped in reggae at home and funk in the streets, he helped found the Living Legends Crew in East Oakland back in the mid-90s. He formed the #808Band in 1996 (named after his custom African American Drum Company kit that mimics the legendary Roland TR-808 — 100% acoustic thunder). The band became the house group for La Peña’s Collective Soul series, jamming with Zion I, Planet Asia, Goapele, Medusa, and more.

He’s performed with everyone from KRS-ONE and The Grouch to Mix Master Mike and Andre Nickatina, and he’s been called “the best natural hip-hop drummer I’ve ever heard” by The Coup’s Josh Jones.

These days he’s the official house drummer for Wax Trippin, holding it down live with DJ Lex, and every guest who hits the stage.

This Sunday, 4/19, he’ll be right there in the middle of it all — live on the drums turning the #WaxTrippin Day Party at #MarsRecordShop in #Oakland into something special.
Free entry, all ages. Good food & drinks, live art, vintage crates, and that perfect daytime Oakland energy.

Who’s pulling up to feel Big G’s drums hit your chest? Drop a 🥁 or 🔥 below and tag your crew.

__________

Devon Blair, the independent rapper, producer, and founder of Mars Wave Sound, brings a unique cosmic edge to hip-hop from the Bay Area. Now based in Oakland, California, he channels real-life experiences into spacey, alternative-tinged beats and introspective lyrics.

Blair launched Mars Wave Sound as his creative outlet and label with a clear mission: make art, record sound, and deliver world-altering vibe experiences. His music fuses atmospheric, futuristic production with honest hip-hop storytelling—tracks that feel like transmissions from another planet while staying grounded in personal growth, ambition, self-doubt, and the grind of chasing dreams.

In March 2025, he dropped his latest album RED PLANET FLOWS, featuring standout cuts like “SCARED OF SUCCESS / ALPHA OUTRO,” “HYPERSPEED,” “THE ALIEN,” “EASIER DONE THAN SAID,” “MIDNIGHT IN OAKLAND,” and “MEMORIES.”

Known online as DEVON BLAIR 👽 or simply The Alien, Blair handles much of his own production and visuals. His sound is melodic yet raw, blending emotional vulnerability with motivational energy. Whether dropping laid-back reflections or high-energy hyperspeed flows, his tracks resonate with listeners navigating their own paths in life and creativity.

Operating fully independently, Devon releases music across Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, YouTube, and TikTok. He continues building Mars Wave Sound as a collective vibe rather than a traditional label—focused on authenticity, sonic experimentation, and pushing culture forward without major-label constraints.

From his roots to the vibrant energy of the Bay, Devon Blair keeps transmitting fresh frequencies. If you’re looking for hip-hop that feels both otherworldly and deeply personal, tune into Mars Wave Sound. The mission is ongoing, and the next transmission is already in the works.
