1 of 1 was written for Martha’s Table annual benefit.
The theme was “Inspiring Brilliance,” and the goal was to encourage the audience that they ARE in fact, one of one, and their existence is both necessary and irreplaceable.

Thank you @marthastable for letting me transform this event theme into a poem. 🍎

♟️👑 THE POWER OF ALWAYS THINK B4U MOVE!

Something powerful happens when our youth become the teachers! 🙌🏾

Today, we witnessed one young chess player helping another strengthen their game through reflection, critical thinking, and learning from their moves.

This is what Always Think B4U Move is all about! It's more than chess. It's about building confidence, developing leadership, and empowering our youth to lift one another up.

💡 When we teach, we reinforce what we've learned. When we reflect, we grow. When we share knowledge, we all get stronger.

At Big Chair Chess Club, we're not just developing better chess players. We're developing tomorrow's leaders! ♟️❤️

Spectramatic Beacon (@commissioned by @marthastable) is a metaphysical representation of the sun—a beacon symbolizing the resilience that flows through Ward 8’s vibrant, multigenerational communities, especially in the Hillsdale and Fort Stanton neighborhoods.

Chicken wire, in its utilitarian form, is a metal material used to contain resources and commodities and to mark boundaries. In this work, however, it is transformed. For me, these sculptures remind the community that they are the source—women, families, and the everyday stewards who sustain and shape communal life.

When we bind ourselves together with intention and purpose, we create structures that can support a better future. @amberroblesgordon

Thank you @marthastable for giving me the opportunity to grace your stage with my spoken word. 🍎

This year’s annual benefit was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when brilliant minds and a shared vision come together to move a mission forward.

Grateful to have been a part of an evening centered around purpose & possibility. The night was truly “1 of 1.”✨

Service in action! Our Washington, D.C. team recently volunteered with Martha's Table, supporting its work to strengthen children, families, and communities across the D.C. area. We are grateful for the opportunity to give back and make a meaningful impact for our neighbors.

Congratulations to @marthastable on nearly five decades of showing up for Washington, DC - and especially for Ward 8.

As a proud Ward 8 native and lifelong resident, it means so much to see Martha’s Table’s mission rooted in our community. And I’m incredibly proud to serve on the Martha’s Table Board and to be part of this work in the community I call home. ❤️

The impact is tangible:

✨ 45,000+ neighbors supported each year
🥕 2.2 million meals distributed through healthy food programs
👕 $2.9 million in savings for families through Martha’s Outfitters
🥗 46,000+ visits to Joyful Food Markets across 50 schools and recreation centers in Wards 7 & 8
💚 550+ neighbors participating in healing-centered wellness programs
🤝 28,276 volunteer hours contributed in FY25
💰 $570,000 invested in 14 Ward 8 grassroots nonprofits

And congratulations to this year’s Annual Benefit honorees - world renowned Denyce Graves, a Ward 8 native who grew up in my Bellevue neighborhood, and Josephine Mazyck of FAN-DC. What a wonderful way to celebrate people who embody the spirit of community and service.

46 years down. And there is still so much work and so much possibility ahead.

Congratulations, Martha’s Table! Here’s to continuing to serve, strengthen, and uplift our communities. ❤️💚
