There is just something powerful about seeing Yoruba heritage expressed through theatre or any organized performance for that matter in a way that feels both deeply rooted yet firefully alive in the present.

It’s a difficult endeavor preserving the tension, stillness, movement, richness, costumes, chants and rhythms as they happened in real time but as a storyteller it is important that I make subtle attempts without distorting. I have done this well.

And because I am prone to digressing and talking excitedly off from time to time, I’ll stop here and not further go on about the sound design, erm until later.

Whew. 😄

So, for a few minutes, step into the kingdom.

Here’s Vacant Throne, as creatively directed by Onaopemipo Adesina @the_onaope , a brilliant mind indeed and fire fully brought to life by the most amazing actors.

Name: Seun Olorunfemi
Title: Maze Of Life
Country: Nigeria

Life isn't all about fun all the times
Sometimes, a man need to sit his butt,
Think and figure out
What step to take next
To explore the world beyond

I wonder why it's taking forever
To figure out the maze of life
Which erupt day-by-day
Within the dept of my soul
Like an angry volcano

I can't help thinking
But a ray of hope
I could see, far ahead
Just like barren Hannah saw it then
With patience, she was visited by eternal happiness

Oh Father!
Thy son's heart is poisoned
With fear and anxiety
See thy son through this
Turbulent storm and
Filled his soul with
Your touch of peace and sound mind
