Just about 20 years muggin with my bro @marcusatom

When I was 20, I had moved to LA thinking I could run away from my problems. Not something I regret, but I didn’t have shit going for me. This dude wrote me an email cold, saying that he was a drummer, dug my playing and that I should consider coming back to Chicago, and that if I did we should play some music together. I took that advice and he’s been one of my closest friends since. We’ve been through it all. Highs and lows. Blood, sweat and tears. Doing the damn thing. Continuing to hold each other accountable and believing in each other even when we doubt ourselves. A true friend.

I Love you man. Wouldn’t be here without you and am so fucking proud of you. Congratulations on the next chapter and union with your wonderful wife. I can’t wait to see what life has in store for the both of you. I’m blessed to have you in my life.

One of my favorite parts of these traveling Welcome to the Shows is inviting someone who works for the venue we’re at that night to come up and give us a brief history of the space! It’s a nice way to kick off the show, getting to know more about the room you’ll be in for the evening. This is Mary McKeen who works for The Salt Shed and hospitality group 16 On Center telling us a little about the massive former Morton’s Salt space the group took on and how architect Craig Golden kept the space true to form while still making it their own.

I had the amazing opportunity to work a 6mo assignment managing the three top lounge and getting to work with the fine folks at the salt shed… and let me tell you… these guys are for real the best in the business! My camera roll is FULL of beautiful skyline views and unbelievably cool shows, but at the end of the day, the most awesome part was getting to know and work with the best people in the game. I’m so so so so thankful that I got to meet and make new friends, that I got to see the inner workings of what all goes into making such a GREAT venue and show experience for guests, all while getting to share and boast about this cool little glass-encased cocktail bar on the roof! Everyone was so welcoming to me and supportive of my future endeavors, I truly can’t imagine a better note to go out on before embarking on my adventure into restaurant ownership. I love the salty crew!!!!!!! ♥️ 🧂

Welcome to the Show at Three Top Lounge was simply spectacular. What better place to get to know amazing Chicagoans than a venue where you can gaze at the city’s beautiful skyline all around you? Thank you to all of my fantastic guests for the evening including Jahmal Cole, Kristen Toomey, Joel Paterson, Lillian King, and Courtney Abbott and Sam Pearson of Backroom Shakespeare. Thank you to everyone at Three Top Lounge and the Salt Shed, to the audience that packed the place, and to Todd Tue for these gorgeous photos. This was one of those evenings when it felt like more than a talk show. It felt like an experience that bonded people. I love hosting this show. Right after it ends I start looking forward to the next one. Thank you, Chicago. Let’s keep talking to each other.

When I was really young we didn't really have cable or anything like that but we did have VHS recordings of television reruns and 24 hour marathons. Get Smart, I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island, Three Stooges, etc. That kinda shit. The Three Stooges are really fucked up but there was this one episode where Moe messed up a paint job and was upset about it. Curly was eating a whole lemon (sure) and gestures for Moe to listen and says, "If at first you don't succeed, keep on suckin' til you do succeed." and proceeded to drink a cup of white paint, thinking it was a glass of milk.

I have no idea where Larry was when this was happening.

I think about this every now and again if I'm having a bad time or generally suck at doing any thing.
