Last night I attended a book launch co-hosted by Norfolk Press at Canessa Gallery, introducing a new book by Mary Applegarth, about the life and architecture of her grandfather, "George A. Applegarth". George A. Applegarth was a prominent architect working in the early 1900s San Francisco! He designed many beautiful homes and downtown buildings, as well as The Clift Hotel and the Legion of Honor! This is the first book ever published about his architectural contributions. His vision left an undeniable mark on San Francisco's Beaux-Arts legacy. I had been familiar with some of Applegarth's buildings, in particular with "Eastern Outfitting Company- Furniture & Carpets" on Market Street @ 6th. A gorgeous tall glass facade with Corinthian columns, holding itself all on its own, built in 1907. It is recognizable due to its signage atop. It had been abandoned for decades and then it was owned by Zendesk, although now it sits empty again. In recent years it was restored, and at night this building is glorious to see it lit! Over the years, I've painted in oils on canvas the facade of Furniture & Carpets and have incorporated it in several of my paintings. And have self-published two of my books "Soma Seen" and "Soma Rising" relating to the central city architecture. These books accompanied the evening at Canessa. It was a delight meeting Mary Applegarth and her family. She gave a lovely talk with Charlie of Norfolk Press and she shared wondefleful stories and historical anecdotes about her grandfather and his designs. I'm so thrilled to have her book in my collection! "GEORGE A. APPLEGARTH" by Mary Applegarth is available for purchase with Norfolk Press, and soon too at William Stout and at the Legion of Honor Museum. Mary shall be invited to give more talks and celebrate her new book! Re: photos- attached are pics taken from last night's reception. Also featured are cropped photos of my paintings feauturing Applegarth's Furniture & Carpets! :) @maryapplegarth @norfolkpress #books #norfolkpress #maryapplegartg #georgeapplegarth #architecture #canessagallery #sanfranciscoarchitecture

Finished a painting yesterday using my patio-studio. If I can work from home I feel safer than going to my studio. #mainelandscape #700acreisland #beach #mainelife #seascape #seascapepainting #oilpaintingart #originalcharacterart
