I went to visit the @prideofyorkshiretrail lions today at Meadowhall - all 300 of them (including the cubs). My lions Fern and Forrest looked pleased to be with the pride and in such amazing company.
The sun shone and the sky was blue, it seems such a long time since those cold November days in the painting space.
Chatting to a complete stranger by the cubs, as this is Sheffield and that’s what people do - she said how moving the cubs were. I knew exactly what she meant - they were so positive and gave so many messages of hope, of being kind, they perhaps brought a tear to many eyes.
The lions, lionesses and cubs will be there until Sunday 4th, definitely worth a visit - in support of Sheffield Children’s Hospital Emergency Department.
The auctions are on 11th and 18th October, see the @prideofyorkshiretrail website for the running order.

I had a fabulous weekend at Art in the Garden with a lovely group of potters and ceramic artists @northernpottersassociation despite having a terrible cold 🤧 Thank you to @inner_mo_ceramics and @katexstride for organising. The marquee looked wonderful

🦁 Meet the Artists: Portland Works

Few places tell Sheffield's story quite like @portlandworks. Built in 1879 and often described as the birthplace of stainless steel, the historic factory is now home to a thriving community of artists and makers.

Four of those artists - Linda Baxter, Suzanne Hale, Mary Sewell and Jenny Sutton - came together to create The Portland Lion and The Portland Lioness.

Inspired by discarded cutlery found around the building, the sculptures celebrate Sheffield's rich manufacturing heritage.

A huge self-set wild scabious was an excuse to fill my sculpture with flowers… I made this at an excellent workshop run by @marysewell in her @portlandworks studio earlier in the year. Delighted with how it turned out.
Later in the video, before firing and glazing.
A couple of my big sky paintings in the background at the start - Hopeman on the Moray Firth and Frampton Marshes on the right, both favourite and very special places.
At the end, what is left of the scabious plant, it must be very drought tolerant as it’s growing in a gravel path, unstaked, not watered and not much soil.
And the music - I’ve been humming it for the last couple of days. - not sure why it has become a bit of an ear worm now, perhaps the Saharan dust in the news recently?
