As our world and landscapes change, we are asked to walk inside the domain of death, sit on its cloak and listen to its stories, to find our own path forward. The red little ones is a meditation on that experience, looking back at allegory and tradition, while D.O.E (Depends On Experience) muses on nature, mutation, and media. The future is a monster at the gate, but we approach it nonetheless.”

A lot of this city has changed in the last decade but an unassuming energy and resilient spirit remains in the students I have the privilege to work with. And that’s been especially true this year, my first time leading the MFA program. I couldn’t be prouder of how far these students have come, whether in their first year or thesis year presenting their work tonight!

I love that they’re earnestly doing their best, making their way, and less interested in being the prettiest or shiniest, but diving into their process and themselves as humans and artists.

Living in a smaller arts ecology requires working with one another to not only make things engaging but also just run! Thank you soooo much to all the artists, curators, gallery/museum directors, mentors, HFSGS STAFF AND ADJUNCT FACULTY, critics, colleagues, and friends who have indulged me and the VS program this year with your generosity!!! I hope y’all can come out and celebrate with us tonight! 🫶
