Offseason work for the college and Highschool track athletes. During the summer and early fall I prioritize general strength qualities to help potentiate the next phases of training.

Loaded jumps vs cleans which is better?

Both have serve similar purposes but can be useful in different ways.

Loaded jumps work as a nice substitute for Olympic lifts and their variations if the athlete has shoulder and wrist limitations. In my experience, it’s much better to use lighter loads to maintain an efficient stretch shortening cycle. Heavier weights with this movement limit the fluidity of the jump and elasticity.

Olympic lifts can be loaded up with more weight on the bar and trains much more technical coordination. When I use the @vitruvefit device, I found that the athletes can hit higher peak velocities and power outputs while using more weight than what is used on the loaded jumps

Both train power and it’s up to the coach or athlete to use the variation that works best for the task at hand.

I typically program in reverse hypers to help support the development of the overall structure. At this point Mason was already plenty strong 💪🏾 so we didn’t need to do more deadlifting volume to up his max. However during this period I was using rdls on his squat days.

During our 5’s wave for lifting we moved to depth drops as our Plyo for squat days.
