‘Silly Soldier’ Necklace in collaboration with @tislohdanboyi

AVAILABLE ONLINE NOW.
With or without Snake Chain.

Precious metal pendant body (925. Sterling Silver / 9ct Yellow Gold) with prong-set gemstone (black spinel / purple amethyst).

This pendant is derived from a video still where a lone officer in uniform is carrying a loaded firearm (Taken in Lagos, Nigeria). Cast in precious metals, it is a metaphorical embodiment of oppression, the casted image was warped and skewed, making the officer resemble a toy-like character - a proclamation of disempowerment.

The main body of the pendant is accompanied by a prong-set gem positioned specifically on the back of the officer. The gems chosen are said to have metaphysical properties of healing, protection and positivity. In this way, the piece intends to portray a message of hope to heal on the backs of (despite) oppression. Black spinel is used to compliment the cold tones of 925. sterling silver and purple amethyst is used to salute the warm hues of the 9ct yellow gold iteration.

Jewellery is objectively beautiful but the real beauty is in its ability to make a statement, tell stories and portray character. Given current tensions around SARS and global tensions around racism, through collaborative effort, we want to start important conversions, inspire change, and give hope.

All proceeds of this collaborative piece will be donated to charitable organisations TBA.
