Not a great photo, and a few finishing touches to complete, but I have thoroughly enjoyed working on this piece. Carol Ann Morley is a fantastic teacher! A great class with @masshort #graphite

Framed by history. Every once in a while, a single portrait perfectly encapsulates the scale and elegance of a venue. This overhead view of Elm Bank's iconic gardens proves why it's a staple for New England garden weddings—capturing not just the couple, but the artistry of their surroundings.

What began two years ago with the girls entering a miraculous 16-pound butternut squash from our compost pile has become one of our favorite early-fall traditions: creating fairy gardens for the New England Flower Show at the Garden at Elm Bank.

After weeks of collecting miniature plants and dreaming up tiny landscapes, we delivered their creations and returned to see them displayed at the show. We wandered among the vendors and floral exhibits, explored Weezie’s children’s garden, and finished in the formal Italianate garden, where the dahlias were putting on the most extraordinary September show.

I love watching the girls develop their own ideas and gardening traditions and hearing a few longtime committee members still greet them as “the squash girls” may be my favorite part of all. 🤍

You can read more on my latest Substack by commenting “Flowers” and I’ll send it along.
