Quick September Appearance Update!

I will be featured at TWO events this September.

First will be Saturday September 19 at @lastbookstorela for their 2nd ever Spring Arts Tower Takeover in Downtown Los Angeles from 10-5. (FYI they're still accepting vendors for those interested).

Then I'll be among some amazing horror company at the Hyaena Horror Market put on by @hyaena_gallery on Saturday September 26 at The Mayflower Club in North Hollywood from 11-4.

Copies of Horror Not Hate, as well as my other projects, will be available.

I saw a post randomly in my feed yesterday about the #springartstowertakeover in #dtla and thought, “Wait… I could actually go to that.”

So I did!

I hopped in the car and headed downtown to support some local authors, and I’m SO glad I did.

There was something really special about being able to connect with these authors in such an organic way to hear them talk about their books, their characters, and the stories they’ve created while also getting to know the humans behind the books. It felt like such a genuine opportunity to show up, have a conversation, and support them and the work they’ve poured themselves into.

And these authors are TROOPERS. Being up there in that hot space all day (with wifi more elusive than a plot twist) and still being so welcoming, enthusiastic, and excited to share their work deserves serious respect!

Definitely one of those spontaneous LA decisions that turned into a really lovely afternoon.

Second stop of the day was @lastbookstorela for the #towertakeover.

This was actually a really fun experience! Walking up and down the stairs with 12 floors to explore. It felt a little spooky at times with some of the hallways being dark. But getting to see different vendors with either art, books, vinyls, movies, and clothes was so cool.

I supported a few indie authors that stood out to me.
The Light by @planetscarlett - this was actually really cute read and I’m trying to start my baby’s little library collection.
Unnamable by @master_schrader - this book sounded really interesting and I love me a good thriller.
The 7 Stages of Grief & Love by @readsandrescues - I already followed Nicole and wanted to show my support.

Thank you again to my cousin @cristinaslibrary for inviting me along. It was a good book day for us!

We had such a good time that this is the version of the band that will be touring this year

🎨 My Reading Palette 🎨

I’ve been a bookstagramer for 124 days, and I just hit 1,500 🎉 I’m so beyond thankful to all of the amazing authors, PR companies, publishers, and fellow bookstagram besties for bringing me into the fold and being just the most amazing humans!

This was incredibly difficult to find books that worked for all of the colors when I mostly read dark covers, but I think it turned out absolutely beautiful!! I wish I could have added so many more books, I mean, this year alone I’m sitting at 108 books so far and I’m loving it!!

Cheers to 1500 and thank you all SO MUCH ♥️🫶🏼📚

I first went to Vegas with 5 of my best friends during spring break of my final year of college. We all stayed together in a twin room at Excalibur splitting the $75 a night. It was the only Vegas trip of my 20’s and It accelerated my commitment to music as it dictated a clear step away from my journalism/advertising major (I was demoted from the ad team for leaving during the break) 😝

We’ve been recreating this trip these past 5 years as it’s been a central location to bring everyone together from all of our various landing spots. I love and appreciate these group trips so much but lately have been mixing in solo trips as well. It’s embarrassing to admit because what the hell could be the draw for a relatively shy guy in an overwhelmingly extroverted city. (Besides being a gambling addict ofc) 🎰

While these solo times have taught me a lot about being able to thrive without external validation, I cant help but look back and realize that my favorite memories are ones that were shared with friends and family.

So I suppose this is a cheers and heart felt send off for the solo adventures of the past and a setting of intentions to not wander off on my own as much in the future.

(I wouldn’t mind a vacation spot that is actually relaxing and affordable if ya’ll have any recs 😅)

🤫 NOTHING BUT THE BEAST by @master_schrader 🤫

What an absolute trip of a book. I kept swaying between Macy and Chris the entire time, trying to figure out who was right, who was wrong, and whether either of them really deserved what happened. It digs into those tiny dark thoughts people never say out loud and asks what happens when you stop fighting them.

My brain was working overtime the whole read, constantly trying to piece everything together and understand Macy’s choices. And then THAT ending?! Holy. Freaking. Heck.

This isn’t a fast-paced thriller or a whodunit. It’s slow, unsettling, tense, and deeply psychological in a way that just crawls under your skin, literally able to feel those little spiders weaving their webs. The guilt, repression, silence, and self-justification were written so well that I honestly felt uncomfortable at times.. but, like, in the best way.

If you love domestic gothic fiction that leaves you questioning morality, accountability, and human nature long after you finish, this one is absolutely worth the read.

If you like horror, sci-do, and/or social commentary, this collection of short stories is for you! Each one was filled with the unexpected and I loved every sentence. Andrew’s writing style/subject matter has been so versatile when it comes to the three books I’ve read of his that it always keeps me wanting more. They’ve all given me the heebie jeebies in a different way for different reasons and I’ll never get tired of it! Thank you so much @master_schrader for this copy of Bad Realities. I can’t wait to find another book of yours to dig into!
