As I begin this new chapter with Rickson Gracie United, it is important to me to recognize and thank those individuals who helped make it possible.

There were many years when my path took me away from my team and their students. During this time, a small group of people continued to proudly represent my name, my philosophy, and the spirit of my Jiu-Jitsu. Even when I encouraged them to build under their own banners, they continued to carry what I had shared with them forward, with loyalty, integrity, and a deep belief in the art.

I have never forgotten this, and I will always be grateful.

For this reason, I have created the First Circle of Rickson Gracie United: an honorary designation recognizing those whose contribution to this mission has been significant, longstanding, and ongoing.

The First Circle is not a recognition of rank or seniority. It is my way of honoring those who stood beside me through the years, who helped preserve and transmit my vision of Jiu-Jitsu, and who continue to share my commitment to its future.

Pictured here are the founding members of the Rickson Gracie United First Circle: Pedro Sauer, Caique Elias, Luis Heredia, Dave Kama, and Harold Harder.

To each of you, I offer my deepest gratitude for your loyalty, your friendship, and the many years you have dedicated to carrying this art forward. It is an honor to have you standing beside me as we begin this next chapter.

Together, we will keep the art alive.

My father has been one of the biggest inspirations and supporters in my life. He believed in me before I believed in myself.

When I got out of the military, I wanted to open a Jiu-Jitsu academy. My dad started training just to understand what I was getting into. That was over 20 years ago.

He started in his early 50s and never stopped. He became one of my first Black Belts, alongside my good friend @nmaez

Today, at 76 years young, he’s still training and teaching every week.

If I’m not mistaken, we were the first father son Black Belt team in Colorado to own and run a Jiu-Jitsu academy. That was over 16 years ago.

I’m incredibly proud of my father and honored that I got to promote him to Black Belt. He’s a true martial artist, an example of kindness, and someone we can all aspire to be like.

At the academy, everyone calls him Pops❤️🥋

Keep showing up and making memories with your homies 🤙🤙

Super proud of this kid. She has grown leaps and bounds since Day 1. Jiujitsu was pretty scary for her the first day so I made it a personal goal to make sure it was a good experience to keep her returning. Fast forward a few years and she has grown heaps of confidence even though jiujtsu can make you doubt yourself sometimes. She is one of our fiercest competitors which was never the goal, it's just a by product of being consistent, always being willing to test yourself and never giving up even when it would be easier than dealing with the struggle. I dont know where she is going in life but I have no doubt she will achieve whatever she puts her mind to. We traveled all the way to Vegas for JiuJitsuCon to put her skills to test and prove that hard work pays off if you show up to put in the work.

Day 1 of IBJJF JiuJitsuCon Kids Internationals NoGi is in the books. Tomorrow we go hit the mats again again for Day 2 Gi.

All my life, I have dedicated myself to developing and sharing the Jiu-Jitsu that I learned from my father: not only its technical approach to self-defense, but also its deeper philosophy of personal growth and empowerment.

In recent years, as the sportive aspect of Jiu-Jitsu has grown around the world, and the art has become more focused on competitions and competitors, I have felt an increasing responsibility to preserve and pass on the core aspects that I feel are now being lost, for the ones who need Jiu-Jitsu the most.

With this in mind, I am very excited to announce the launch of my new affiliate program. Rickson Gracie United will be an international of Jiu-Jitsu clubs, schools and academies committed to this mission. It will will facilitate instructor certification courses, offer expanded online educational resources, provide access to instruction with myself and other senior RGU members, and afford affiliates the opportunity to be part of a global community of similarly motivated instructors and practitioners.

Pictured here is the first class of Rickson Gracie United certified instructors, who have been and will be helping me in this important work: Chris Burns (@chrisbonesjj), Scott Burr (@enclavejiujitsu), Michael Casey (@mike_gracieny), and James Driskill (@jamesdriskill).

If you would like to learn more about Rickson Gracie United, please visit www.RicksonGracieUnited.com. There you’ll find current affiliate information, upcoming events, as well as information about how you can be part of the mission.

Together, we will keep the art alive.

Today we celebrate my dad’s 76th birthday. 🎉

For over 20 years, he’s dedicated himself to the mats and has inspired all of us by leading through action. A man of few words, he shows us every day what it means to give your time, teach others, and make a difference.

One of the greatest privileges of my life has been teaching alongside my first black belt… my father… since we opened Katharo in 2010.

Dad, thank you for teaching me how to be a man, how to treat people with respect, stand up for what’s right, show compassion, forgive, work through struggles, and keep moving forward.

I love you. I’m proud of you. Thank you for believing in me and helping make me the man I am today.

Happy 76th Birthday, Dad. We all love you, and you’ve made a lasting impact on so many lives.

The mats are nothing without the people.

I’m fortunate to live my passion every day… teaching Jiu-Jitsu, training with my students, and exploring new ideas on the mats.

The connections, the training, the laughs, and the hard rounds are what make this journey special. It’s all about growth. It’s about pushing each other to get a little better every day.

Even 1% adds up.

Get after it. 🤙

Find your tribe.

I’ve always been a fan of this position since I learned it in the late 90’s.

You can use it to sweep, attack leg locks, take the back, or stand up. But the biggest benefit for me is that it’s built for fighting… you’re in a position where it’s very difficult to get hit in the face.

I first learned this concept from Relson Gracie, but I really saw it shine watching Saulo Ribeiro and Eduardo Telles use it in competition.

Adding this to your game is a must, in my opinion. It’s one of the best positions in grappling for getting off the bottom.

Follow for more. 🤙
