Many people have been asking about Sierra and ⚽ ..

From the advice of her doctors and after much prayer and talking with family, @_sierra_jacobson_ has made the difficult decision to MEDICALLY RETIRE from competitive soccer. 😭

Playing for @slcc_wsoccer has been the fulfillment of a life long dream, hard work and dedication to her sport. She quickly earned a starting spot and played in every game, and received a SWAC All Region nod!

She loves playing soccer. She loves the challenge of high competition. She loves her many teammates/BSFs and her coaches and trainers.

Her dream season was marred by an increase in pain in her legs. She had what we thought were shin splints years prior and was managing it through various recovery methods.

But her legs started to get worse throughout this season to the point she couldn't feel her feet during games, while her calves burned painfully. It only got worse as the season went on. Normal recovery methods no longer worked. The pain and numbness affected her running, her passing, her shots, her speed and agility.

After fighting through each game through to the last game of Nationals, we spent the off season trying find out what was wrong.
Many MRIs, ultrasounds, x-rays, multiple exercise tests all stumped a panel of doctors/surgeons, headed by our awesome Dr Winnig, who kept at it until we got a diagnosis.
She was finally diagnosed with Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome (PAES) which basically means that the main artery to the lower leg is being cut off by her calf muscles. In some of the testing, she had 100% blood flow blockage in her left leg, and 79% in the right.

There is a vascular surgery that could possibly help but is considered extremely dangerous and possibly life threatening and the surgeons on her panel refused to do that surgery.
There are some temp options to relieve pain but nothing long term. Since this condition luckily so far does not affect her day to day life, the doctors all advised that she be done with soccer. 😞

She would like to thank God for the opportunities, her parents/siblings/family, her coaches, teammates, and trainers for all the love and support over the years.
