10 October marks World Homeless Day so I’m Building a Safe Place with @everyyouth_uk 🧱🫂

EveryYouth work with delivery partners to support young people facing homelessness and I am building a safe place to raise awareness in order to raise funds to support this work!

In my bio, I have a link where you can donate a “small comfort” which will go towards building a safe place for those young people in need! 🫶🏼

Last year, the equivalent to 1 young person every 4 minutes faced homelessness so we need to come together more than ever! If you can, please visit the link in my bio and alternatively, follow EveryYouth on socials to follow their work. ❤️

A doctor told her that having a baby would cure her endometriosis. She was 19.

That's the advice @mathildebarker was given after years of misdiagnosis, and it's just one of the things she shared with me on my @drlouisenewsonpodcast this week when she opened up about her endometriosis and adenomyosis journey.

As I say in the episode, it's a lot easier to give someone hormones than to get them pregnant, and telling a woman to have a baby to fix her symptoms is a ridiculous thing for a doctor to say. Mathilde told me she hears versions of this advice constantly from other women going through the same thing, which shows how widespread this dismissal still is, leaving so many women without proper treatment.

@mathildebarker was 23 when she finally was given a diagnosis of endometriosis, five years and two surgeries after her symptoms first began.

This week on my @drlouisenewsonpodcast, Mathilde joined me to talk through everything she went through to be diagnosed: being told her pain was down to dance training, having her appendix removed by mistake, and being told at 19 that having a baby would cure her symptoms. Her current treatment plan (a medication called Ryeqo) has now put her into an early, medically induced menopause just to manage her pain and symptoms.

We talk about why so many women with endometriosis and adenomyosis have low testosterone and progesterone, and why blocking hormones completely isn't always the right approach, especially for future health. When women are properly informed about their hormones, they can ask for the right treatment sooner and suffer less.
