Cape Town launches its Metro Police SWAT and Drone Units during a demonstration at the Joint Public Safety Operations Centre (JPSOC) in Cape Town, South Africa.

The demonstration features a simulated bus hijacking and hostage situation, showing how the specialised SWAT and Drone Units work together during a high-risk incident. The drone team provides aerial surveillance and intelligence while the SWAT team responds to the simulated hostage situation and brings the incident under control.

The launch forms part of the City’s broader crime-fighting strategy, with the specialised units intended to support SAPS in tackling gang violence, extortion and violent crime.

The City allocates R6.8 billion to its Safety and Security Department for the 2026/2027 financial year, with about half for policing. The City also plans to establish a Metro Police Detective Unit as it seeks expanded powers to investigate crime.

Aquatic life and the water ecosystem in Makoko, a historic floating settlement on the Lagos Lagoon in Nigeria, center entirely on fishing, intense human adaptation, and severe environmental pollution. The waters support daily commuting by canoe, fish smoking, and floating commerce, but face heavy ecological strain.

“ The truth is, whatever game you play in life, sometimes you are going to lose. A point, a match, a season, a job. It’s a rollercoaster with many ups and downs.

You want to become a master at overcoming hard moments.

This mindset is really crucial.

The best in the world are not the best because they win every point, it’s because they know they lose again and again and have learned how to deal with it.

Don’t ever forget that “
