It's sad that our culture's definition of what it means to be feminine or "like a girl" is always revolving around the idea that girls are weaker. Saying things like "you throw like a girl" or "you run like a girl" implies that female strength is unquestionably inferior to male strength, and is ultimately an insult. And why do we tell boys to "man up" when they're not asserting themselves or they're allowing themselves to show emotion? Why are little girls given dolls and little boys are given action figures or super heroes? Girls are afraid to lift weights because they think they'll get big. Why isn't it ok for us to be big and strong? Why do girls become tomboys if they like to play sports? Why are men always rescuing the women in stories?
