It has taken us a while to fully recover... to let the experience sink in, and to integrate this past edition.

Every 6 months we re-invent ourselves in search for the close and the far, the deep and the shallow, the high and the low, the wide and the narrow;
A unique treasure hunt for meaningful experiences to weave into our ever growing banner!

Thank you for co-creating this tapestry with us, with your time, your energy, and your resources!

6 years now of UTR!
And to many more!

See you in April!

It’s Sunday, and we’re slowly approaching the last night of Monument 2026. Before the closing set, one of the more distinctive voices coming out of Japan’s underground techno scene enters Varden.

OCCA has spent more than twenty years building his sound and community in Sapporo and Tokyo. That sound is now travelling all over the world, and this night it will journey through the forest in Veggli.

«I didn’t plan my set in advance. Instead, I put a large selection of tracks I had in mind into a playlist. Once I arrived at the festival, I gradually shaped the set; enjoying the music, connecting with people, and taking in the nature and weather around me.

I wanted to bring an energy that would feel powerful and danceable under the sunlight, while also incorporating something that would make people reflect on the time they had spent at the festival – as we moved towards the closing.

I was unsure whether to play a track from a live recording featuring Suzanne Ciani performing with the Metropole Orkest, conducted by Simon Dobson. But when I saw how much the audience was yearning for the music, I felt confident enough to play it. I also can’t forget the scene when the low end of Pearson Sound’s “XLB (Allen Mock x Herbalistek Remix)” ran through the crowd like a tidal wave.

When I left the booth, I was filled with joy and gratitude. Passing the baton from Feral, a longtime friend and an artist I deeply respect, to Efdemin, whom I have been a huge fan of since I first started DJing. I had dreamed of playing at Monument for a long time, so finally being able to stand there and play was a very special moment for me.»

Some of the people who make Monument truly special are rarely seen on the dancefloor ✨

They are behind the speakers, inside the technical tent, behind computers and mixing desks, making sure everything comes together perfectly for our four-day journey in the Forgotten Valley. They make sure you can feel every detail of the music. The bass rumbling deep in your chest. Funktion-One speakers perfectly tuned for the forest dancefloor.

At Varden, our main stage, Mats leads the technical production making sound and light come together. Then there’s our lovely duo of artistic director and visuals artists, always smiling from ear to ear, João and Melissa, who shape the visual world around us.

Through light, lasers and projection, they transform the forest into something that feels both familiar and completely otherworldly. With help from David and Emerence, they bend both light and ours minds. Trees dance. Landscapes move. For a while, the forest can suddenly become an indoor club, then another planet, and then something we can’t quite describe with words. You have to see it. Feel it. You know what we are talking about.

At Haven, Fredrik leads the technical team, with Danny shaping the visual experience, and Buddy on sound. Together with their team, they create the space that welcomes you into the festival on opening day, and keeps the energy flowing long after the sun has set behind the hills.

A big thank you to the teams:

Our old Varden stood as our temple for years. This year we took it apart piece by piece, and built something new from its roots 🪵

A varde is originally an old Nordic beacon. These wooden beacons stood on mountaintops, and was set on fire to signal danger across the Nordic landscape. Spreading the message from one valley to the next. In more modern times the varde became a marker of direction, presence and safe passage. Here in Rollag, where the festival takes place, the varde is actually part of the county’s coat of arms.

Over 1200 hours of work went into the new and upgraded Varden you experienced this year. It’s made from around 20 trees felled and prepared here at the farm. Several hundred-kilo timber logs form the base, using traditional Nordic log building techniques. The cladding has also been charred, a traditional way of wood preservation, giving the materials a longer life with very little maintenance.

It’s part of the same effort of changes you saw across the farm this year, from new toilets in the forest to a new roof, window and cladding at Haven. Reusing what we have wherever we can, giving materials a longer life.

Our new Varden keeps the spirit of the old one, while giving sound, light and smoke more room to breathe. Gaps in the roof let light and smoke escape, allowing the structure to pulse with the music and become part of the experience.

Varden was designed as a collaboration across several disciplines, with more room for equipment and better acoustics. Marius Alexander Thorbjørnsen led the project, with Brage Ø. Reppe on drawings and architecture, Melissa F. Larsen on light design, Kittil Torsteinson Lindheim (farm owner) as construction client, Mats Bekkåsen as sound designer, and Ole Kristian Rød leading the build.

A huge thank you to them and the rest of the building team:

Dag Lysaker, Daniel Medelin, Pål Eirik Svanevik, Fredrik Bjørmo, Sverre Wiig, Adrian Hagelund, Galina Alexandrovna, Magnus Wiig, Martin Thomassen, Sureya Huth, Herman Bøhmer Rud, Thomas Nilsen, Marie Hakenstad, Karoline Gjøen Brandal, Sigmund Skoglund Aubert, Jan Filip Marcinek, Pia Lutro, Benedikte Heap, Thea Tsukahara Melby and Adrian Safavi Marstad

Starting with last April, our aftermovies are taking a more documentary aproach with small interviews of the crew, artist and some of our steadfast and loyal volunteers and guest.

The goal is to better showcase and highlight the many moving parts of our event, and give a little peek into what happens behind the scenes.

On this first of 4 small video-shorts planned to be released between now and October; UTR Project Leader - Octavio Esperanto answers one simple question:
WHAT IS UNDER THE RUG?!

𝑊𝑎𝑡𝑐ℎ 𝑖𝑛 4𝑘 𝑖𝑛 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑏𝑒, 𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑖𝑛 𝑏𝑖𝑜.
