Lombard Street is an east–west street in San Francisco, California that is famous for a steep, one-block section with eight hairpin turns. Why Is This Street So Crooked 🛣?

It’s the most obvious question that springs to mind, and the answer is actually simpler than you might suspect: safety and comfort. Like many streets in San Francisco, Lombard Street, particularly around that 1000 block, is quite steep. Back in the 1920s, the residents of the area got together and suggested adding some sharp turns to this section of the road to increase pedestrian safety, make the grade more manageable for the not so technologically-advanced vehicles of the time, and add some well-deserved aesthetic appeal to the area🚘.

And so it was done. The 600-foot stretch added those eight turns that give it that distinct appearance, and later on, in the late 1930s, it became a one-way street (going down) to further improve safety🏩.

Hoy os traigo una foto que me ha hecho mucha ilusión nada más verla. Yo viví mucho tiempo en esta misma calle, entonces, cuando he visto esta foto y he reconocido mi edificio no ha podido hacerme más ilusión.
La mítica tienda Lolita por la que pasaba a diario y mi casa al fondo, Largo Trionfale.
Se trate del barrio Prati, donde se ubica el #Vaticano. Precisamente, está calle Leone IV, es donde se encuentran los Museos.
Los que habéis vivido en Roma, ¿cuál era vuestro barrio? Los que no, ¿os gustaría vivir en la Ciudad Eterna?

Osaka Castle is a Japanese castle in Chūō-ku, Osaka, Japan. The castle is one of Japan's most famous landmarks and it played a major role in the unification of Japan during the sixteenth century 🇯🇵.

The year that Osaka Castle was finally finished, in 1597, the original owner died, and the castle was inherited by his son Toyotomi Hideyori 🏰 .
