Now, don’t get me wrong—drones are great tools. But if you really want to inspect a roof, sometimes you’ve gotta get up there and do it the old-fashioned way.

…And whatever you do, don’t show this to my wife.

A rotting post turned into a much bigger discovery. 👀🏠

This homeowner reached out after noticing a post beginning to rot. During our inspection, we identified the likely cause: improper roof flashing that had been allowing moisture into the structure.

Once we opened up the area to make the repair, we discovered the damage extended into the wall—and the post itself had completely rotted.

The surprising part? There were no visible signs of water damage inside the home.

Our team removed and replaced the damaged wood, repaired the affected areas, and properly installed the roof flashing to help protect the home moving forward.

This is exactly why catching roofing issues early matters. A leak or flashing problem doesn’t always show up as a stain on your ceiling.

🍂 Is your roof ready for another Colorado winter?

Steel Mountain Roofing & Construction offers FREE roof inspections, including a photo report of what we find. Matthew is known for thorough inspections, honest evaluations, and telling homeowners what actually needs attention—without trying to sell repairs they don’t need.
