Artefacts of Shelter is a collaborative ceramic collection exploring architecture, anthropology, and the origins of dwelling.

At the core of the collection are three clay vessel designs, each responding to a fundamental human need: the open water vessel, the dry storage vessel, and the ceremonial fragrance vessel. Developed from long-standing traditions of use and reimagined through a contemporary lens, the forms draw on anthropological references — from both vessels and architectural structures — across diverse regions, highlighting recurring gestures and shared structural logics that emerged independently across cultures.

It’s been pure joy and really interesting to discuss, share, draw, try, fail, rebuild and formalize these shapes with @matter_edit duo, Rike and Jorin.

Earlier this spring, at Pascale’s casita amongst the olive trees in the province of Tarragona, with the collection we shaped together.

Artefacts of Shelter is a collaborative ceramic project by Matter Edit and Oikos Estudio, exploring architecture, anthropology and the origins of dwelling. Rooted in material culture, history and form, it reflects on the enduring relationship between objects and the ways we live.

Earlier this year I had the absolute pleasure of spending a day taking videos of the beautiful collaborative ceramic collection by Matter Edit ( @matter_edit ) and Pascale Zintzen ( @oikos_estudio ), “Artefacts of Shelter”.

Original Berber ring in solid silver from the Drâa valley, Morocco. Traditionally worn on the index finger with the thinner side facing inwards, this is a beautiful statement piece with distinct Tifinagh markings. These were worn to signify individuality and social status. It dates from the late 19th to early 20th century.
