POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We were supposed to cohost a live ADA webinar on September 16th. It didn’t happen, and here’s why.

A few days ago, Dr. Matthea Rentea, Michael Donnelly-Boylen, and I withdrew from a planned session at the American Diabetes Association in support of a broader boycott. It follows a Scientific Sessions keynote given by a MAHA representative, the removal of scientists who peacefully protested it, and a public response from ADA leadership that did not address the deeper questions about how a scientific organization treats dissent from its own members.

We still believe in the content we had prepared, so we recorded it as a conversation instead. This episode covers the trust gap that keeps patients with obesity from getting care, the language that builds safety versus the language that shames, and what it actually takes to build a comprehensive obesity care program around real patients rather than around a system.

New episode of Clearly Hormonal is live. Link in bio.

Also running today on The Obesity Guide with Dr. Matthea Rentea and Weight and Measure with Mike and Zach.

After careful consideration, we have withdrawn from the September 16 OA/ADA webinar, “Integrating Peer and Lived Experiences to Strengthen Obesity Care.”

This was not an easy decision. We remain deeply committed to compassionate, evidence-based obesity care and to the patients, clinicians, researchers, and advocates working to improve it.

But a conversation about lived experience, listening, and trust requires us to hold ourselves and the organizations with which we partner to those same principles.

The events at the ADA Scientific Sessions in June and the organization’s subsequent response have left important concerns about transparency, accountability, scientific discourse, and the treatment of dissent unresolved.

Supporting diabetes research and asking difficult questions about organizational actions are not competing goals. Both are necessary to protect trust within our scientific and medical communities.

Our decision is not a rejection of the ADA’s mission, the obesity community, or the valuable work of our colleagues. It reflects our belief that participating at this moment would be inconsistent with the principles we would be asking clinicians to bring to their relationships with patients.

We remain open to future collaboration when these concerns have been meaningfully addressed.

#RaisingBodyConfidentKids is truly a gem for future generations. 💛

It’s the much-needed guide we as parents need to help our children navigate a world filled with messages about what their bodies “should” look like.

It gives us the tools to break generational cycles, challenge societal norms around body shaming, and create a healthier narrative for our children.

And maybe one of the most powerful parts? It gives us an opportunity to look inward, learn to love and appreciate our own bodies, and pass that gift along to our children.

Because raising body-confident kids starts with us. ✨

Trying to get a head start on the July book for the amazing Summer Reset book club @matthearenteamd and I are running. July’s book is written by Mireille Guiliano, who I am hoping will teach me the French rules of mindful eating. As a half French, half American, it is something I haven’t picked up yet on my own!

Hair loss is a complex topic. It’s really distressing and not always straightforward to treat. There are so many different causes and sometimes multiple things can be happening at once. Tune in to hear the latest episode of my friend @matthearenteamd ’s podcast The Obesity Guide to hear us talk about endocrine causes of hair loss and hear my personal hair loss experiences (yes, there have been multiple).

Here’s her #1 health tip: prioritize sleep. I personally need around 8 hours a night or I definitely don’t feel 100% myself.

How much sleep do you need to feel your best? Let’s hear it in the comments ⬇️

Can’t wait for you all to hear this episode coming to Metabolism Diaries on Spotify & YouTube this week 🎙️

A few months ago, I probably would’ve looked at this outfit and immediately picked myself apart.
The jeans. The jacket. The crop tee. The body underneath it all.

But here’s what I’m learning… body image healing isn’t some magical moment where you suddenly love everything you see.

Sometimes it’s just:
trying the outfit.
Rolling up the sleeves.
Standing in the mirror a little longer.
And letting yourself exist without tearing yourself apart.

The retreat gave me more than fashion tips.
It gave me permission to start seeing myself differently.

And honestly?
That feels harder than weight loss some days.

But we keep going.
Awkwardly. Imperfectly. Courageously.
