Left my boy in Tulsa, but I know I left him in the right place and in the best hands. I’m so excited to watch him grow, flourish, and become the man God has created him to be.

So thankful for good friends who will keep an open door for him, and for the opportunity for them—and my pastor and spiritual father—to pour into his life. What a gift it is to know he is surrounded by people who will love him, encourage him, and point him toward Jesus.

It’s going to be a great adventure, and I can’t wait to see all that God has in store! #oru

As Bradley County Schools was kicking off another school year, we were ending our 17 year run in BCS with one final hurrah for Matthew. Today, he got to read an essay he wrote about his most impactful teacher, Mr. Henry. I had the joy of teaching with Ricky for 3 years before he had Matthew. There aren’t many teachers that I trust personally and professionally as much as I do Ricky. When Matthew had him for 7th grade math, it truly was a game changer. As he said, Mr. Henry altered the trajectory of his life. Middle school is literally “the best of times and the worst of times” for most kids. And those times are experienced often in one day or one class period. Teachers like Ricky who really see kids and their potential are a necessary part of the middle school years. In the second picture, you’ll also see 2 other former colleagues of mine. Jon Garrett and Beth Finnel. I can’t say enough about Jon as a teacher. I can say that like Ricky, he sees kids where they are and infinitely believes in them. And Beth, she’s the perfect example of tough love, which makes her a phenomenal special education teacher. She will cheer on any kid and like Jon and Ricky, believes in them. As I end my time in BCS as a parent, I’m infinitely grateful for teachers like these who kids are their priority.
