Let’s be honest. I’m sitting at my desk with a mile-long to-do list and thinking about @nadineingram’s cake. 🍰 photo @bach.atelier

After spotting two macaws flying free through the arbour in Woollahra’s Queen St, the appearance of the bird-in-flight motif, centre stage on an otherwise ordinary day, inspired the paintings in @matthewkentmann’s 2019 exhibition ‘Blue and Gold’. Mid-week art appreciation and inspiration provided by my husband 💙 and the perfect antidote to a grey day.

Looking for interiors inspo? 2024 is going to mark some distinct shifts in aesthetics (thank goodness), with a move to sustainable materials - recycled timbers and fabrics, bamboo, and upcycling at the fore, creating a calming connection between home and nature.

Maximalism is on the way back (hurrah!) - but with a twist. It’s curated clutter (I’m an early adopter 😉). We’re going to be edging towards pattern and a less restrained way of living.

And if you’re tired of neutrals 🙌🏻 bold colour is on its way. Think ochres, deep emerald green and apricot (😬) - we’re going to welcome back some strong accents and dare I say it: feature walls.

Global influences will be on show. Those textural authentically handcrafted pieces you collected from your world trip, the rug you picked up in Morocco and Japanese ceramics - all will take centre stage.

And tech is going to continue earning a place to *hopefully* make life easier: voice activation, AI controls. Are you going to welcome it into your world? 🤖

What else? Curves, stripes, coloured glass and Scandi style.

A solo exhibition of new paintings by @matthewkentmann is on display until tomorrow. The gallery will be open from 11am until 5pm.
__In his essay, Joe Frost writes, 'Two decades of experience in life drawing, his skilfulness and sound judgment as a draftsman and painter have equipped Kentmann to weave a beautiful illusion, catching birds mid-swoop as they approach or wheeling away with undersides exposed. The artist has looked for that angle, that moment, in which the bird's action becomes a painterly form, giving him full scope to compose with shape and expressive colour.'
