Matthew Kluber & Stuart Allen Open Friday!

Haw Contemporary opens the new year with two immersive solo exhibitions this Friday, January 9. In Galleries 1 and 2, Stuart Allen presents 35,000 ft., a luminous body of work drawn from photographs taken at cruising altitude and transformed into shimmering fields of atmospheric color and light. In Gallery 3, Matthew Kluber debuts Floating Opera, where 3D-printed lattice forms and projected, code-driven light merge with paintings inspired by the visual glitches of early computer crashes. Together, the exhibitions explore perception, technology, and time through distinctly poetic lenses. Join us for an opening reception with the artists from 5 to 8 pm. No RSVP required.

We are proud to share @dsmmagazine’s feature on State of the Arts: Iowa’s Artist Fellows!

Since the start of the Iowa Artist Fellowship in 2014, 60 artists have received support from the @iowaartscouncil - a division of the Iowa Economic Development Authority, to pursue their creative careers. For the first time works of the fellows’ will be exhibited together at Mainframe Studios.

State of the Arts: Iowa’s Artist Fellows Curated by Rachel Royster @lavenderblonde, celebrates 12 years of the Iowa Artist Fellows program, which has supported 60 boundary-pushing creatives across visual arts, film, music, creative writing, theatre, and multimedia. Showcasing the exceptional work of these visionary artists, the exhibition reflects the diversity of disciplines and communities that define Iowa’s creative scene. Together, their innovative practices are shaping the state’s cultural landscape and reimagining what it means to live, create, and thrive as an artist here.

Micheal Morain of dsm Magazine interviewed curators and artists of the exhibition, highlighting the impact of the fellowship program.

The Iowa Artist Fellows are able to expand their practices, refine their skills, and ultimately speak to a wider audience through their work. These artists are nurtured by lasting relationships formed, empowering them to keep taking creative risks and further their career goals. Iowa’s art scene is strengthened through these bonds formed between rural and urban communities, and through the connections that expand beyond the state’s borders.

Mainframe Studios is proud to support the Iowa Artist Fellows in showcasing their hard-work and dedication to their craft and communities. Please join us in celebrating at First Friday!
