i didn’t know when i scheduled this release that id be releasing a video the same week as one of the most gruesome SA cases I’ve ever read about came to light. i sincerely hate talking about this but here we go…

this song is about how my relationship with my *favorite* sister transformed after i learned that she knew and covered up 9 years of sexual assault and chose to protect my abuser. (look I’m even protecting him here) actually i have four sisters and three chose that path. it’s everywhere. if you can relate im sorry.

part of me always wants to make this palatable and easier for people to read and make it lighter but it’s not light or palatable and should make you uncomfortable. Domestic r*p3 and SA happens to 30-40% of all women. We are most unsafe in our homes and in adulthood most likely to die at the hands of our domestic partners.

Every woman I’ve talked to in the 5 years of not living in denial of my childhood- has the same story, ostracized from their families, gaslit, made to seem insane and forced to carry the burden of shame that isn’t theirs. lots of other women participate in this process too. I now know that the shame isn’t mine and is entirely on my family for not protecting a 6 year old girl.

i miss when it was simpler and I was just jealous of who i thought she was/ they were. big shiny eyes for the world undistorted by the truth. Can we do better?????

breathe + hymn for silence are here. in december of last year I started recording the first part of my album and today I’m sharing two songs with you.

I was lucky enough to spend a few days locked out at @kingsizesoundlabs reimagining a bunch of demos i had with some of besties and doing a lot it to tape. I mostly produce by myself in my studio and I wanted this album to be a celebration of the amazing musicians and friends in my life especially the content is grim as hell and deeply personal.

so excited to share it with you all.

a massive thank you to the army of folks who brought this to life with me. i feel so lucky.
