This is the final week to see Ghetto Girls Deserve Good Things by @azairelovejunt

We hope you can find time to see this incredible exhibition before it ends. In the meantime, check out our video interview with Zaire! Videography and editing by @matthewthomas_media_production @matthewiwehttam

Gallery Hours:

Mon-Thurs: 7:30am - 10:00pm
Fri: 7:30am - 4:30pm
Sat: Closed
Sunday: 2:00pm - 10:00pm

GHETTO GIRLS DESERVE GOOD THINGS is an ode to the originators of carefree expressive style and culture that influences contemporary culture. There is a demand for ghetto aesthetics and ingenuity but often the creators are erased while the “pseudo-innovators” write a new story with stolen culture. Will we ever talk to the ghetto girl about her dreams, desires, and hopes for her future? And if we do, what would we hear?
In this moment of advocating for Black representation, Black excellence, and Black equity in America, we must keep in mind that radical activism means radical representation. GHETTO GIRLS DESERVE GOOD THINGS exists to ensure ghetto girls have a chance to pull their seats up to the table and tell their stories.

Some of you may know that we were out in Memphis recently for an 8 day redo on our new rental in Mid-town... our ambitous flip could not have been possible without some amazing people who worked pre and post our arrival and departure...and of course to @morrison_fran for watching our little man and creatures...❤️❤️❤️
DM for link to rental!

Check out the video of our current exhibition SPTP: Art In Public Space. Shot and edited by @63years7months @matthewiwehttam

The exhibition includes the following artists:

Randy Gudino
Keira Harris
Kaz Rainer
Shamus Smisor
Myrna Trevino

SPTP (Special Topics): Art in Public Space gives students an opportunity to work through the various stages of realizing a public art project. This class exhibition highlights each student’s process in proposing a public work for the CBU campus. The materials presented here represent a breadth of interests, many highlighting the important relationship between CBU, its core values and student body.

The students in this exhibition believe CBU’s campus needs to be activated visually and architecturally through the arts. Not only would this highlight the Visual Arts Department and the important role that students play in campus culture, but could engage the broader Memphis community and create an inspiring atmosphere for students to live and learn

SPTP: Art in Public Space is up until December 18th and is open to the public by appointment. Please contact Scott Carter, Gallery Coordinator, at scarte20@cbu.edu to make an appointment. Requests should be made at least 24 hours in advance.

The CBU community can view the show during library hours. A virtual tour will be available on the gallery website shortly.

See www.cbu.edu/gallery for more information.
