Tufas Magazine Issue 004 BOTW SOTW - @mitchellshobbies I’ve been dealing with a pulley injury that has been killing my stoke, but I’ve been getting it back by working on slab. I was having trouble with the first few moves of this one, but once I used a heel hook to get past the opening sequence I was able to send right away, despite some spooky static moves. This was a super rewarding problem! Finished up the 70 this week, what are you getting on? Setting 📸 - @drewsconcepts Finished up the 70 this week, what are you getting on? PRE-SEASON CAMP ’26 Another camp in the history books! It still feels wild to think that we’ve been doing this for five straight years. Every year, the goal has been to give athletes an environment where they can challenge themselves, learn, and experience the demands of competition before the season begins. I’m incredibly proud of how everyone showed up this year—psyched, willing to be challenged, and ready to learn. Training camps take a lot of behind-the-scenes work, and none of this happens without a great team. Huge thank you to @seawiio, @hoyt.austin, and @mattsets for bringing their experience, energy, and ideas to the weekend and helping make this year’s camp the best one yet. And thank you to @tufasboulderlounge for being an excellent host and giving us a space to bring it all together. Five years down. We’re just getting started. 📸: @drewsconcepts

GUEST SETTER SPOTLIGHT - MATT WHITEMAN Meet the mind behind Tufas’ hardest comp boulders — Matt Whiteman! A USAC level 2 route-setter who brings loads of psych and experience to our setting team! 🔥Favorite Movement Style to Set: Matt loves crafting moves that make you cut feet in ways that are as technical as they are tricky. 🔥Route-Setting Philosophy: “My philosophy typically revolves around the idea of better, not stronger. I like when physical requirements are lower than skill/technical requirements.” So don’t expect only burly dynos—expect boulders that demand thought, tension, and precision. We are thrilled to have Matt on our setting staff for this year’s Pre-Season Bouldering Camp! 📍Tufas Boulder Lounge, Philadelphia, PA 🗓️August 29th & 30th, 9 am - 4 pm Secure your spot now through the link in the bio —limited spots remain!

Don’t overthink the trajectory when it comes to dynamic movements. Once the movement and micro-beta are figured out, attack the ending position with everything you’ve got. Find the trajectory. Create balance on the feet. Attack the ending position. Pre-Season Bouldering Camp is open for registration. 📍Tufas Boulder Lounge 🗓️August 29th & 30th (Saturday & Sunday) from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM A 2-day intensive designed to prepare youth climbers (U13 & up) for the upcoming 2026/2027 USAC bouldering season.
