OUT NOW: U & ME by @spookystack From the remarkable “Clown” EP, out 7.30 right here on @houseoffeelings Photo by @35mec Spooky himself on the track and video: “3 years ago I went to Berlin with my best friends and I documented the trip with this shitty little mini dv camera I had at the time. I completely forgot about the footage but stumbled across it one day while clearing up my hard drive. Immediately I was like yea this has to go in a music video. I was just about to go back to Europe but this time on tour with my band, so I decided to shoot more footage while I was out there and blend it with the clips from the previous trip. I edited it all in the back of our tour van, on Ableton, DIY till I die. The video kind of made itself - and I think it ended up unintentionally being this sort of playful back and forth between past and present me. Past me living in the moment and present me singing about that nostalgia of it all. I don’t think i really knew what U & ME was about until i made this video.” More soon from this amazing artist ⬛️⬛️

MORE LORE: House of Feelings, the Pre-Label Years Assorted Memories 2016-2019 (we think) 1) @mattyfasano, @joefassler, @hsilkchampagne, and Sophia Myles the dog shooting the cover art for the HoF single “Watch My Dog.” (ed note: still goes) 2) @jumons episode of HoF Radio. 3) Anthony Bourdain at an HoF dj night during our two year long front room residency at @babysallright. Allegedly, he complimented the set. 4) @exit_endex episode of HoF Radio with the famous “Weird Jesus” that used to be at @newtownradio. 5) @pizzadog as Blue Man Group at a Silent Barn HoF show. Unclear what the assignment was. 6) design by @that_guy_kris_. 7) @faltydl episode of HoF Radio. Really the best ever. 8) crew 9) vinyl 10) “Say Yeah” by HoF on an episode of Broad City. Great show. ⬛️⬛️

Since many of you have caught the Maya Deren reference in the new video, I wanted to share some of my director's words on "Compliment" and some more of her inspirations. (Muybridge moment!) Director @lisasaeboe - " I wanted “Compliment” to feel like a surrealist journey through the unconscious, utilizing mirrors, repetition, and portals to create a simulacra of modern day loneliness and desire. Immediately when I listened to the song, I had a vision of Rare on a stark beach in the winter, gazing aimlessly at the ocean. Suddenly she is drawn, almost supernaturally, to a beam of light which transports her to a shadow realm of repeated and fragmented versions of herself. It felt important that it was only Rare in this video, the only “supporting acts” being her own reflections and refractions. “Compliment” is also a love letter to artists that have helped shape my own visual language. We start the video with a reference to the Rokeby Venus by Diego Velásquez, the dreamy beach landscape inspired by experimental filmmaker Maya Deren, followed by Caravaggio’s Narcissus gazing into the pool, and of course the multiple echoes or Rare DM ascending the stairs à la Eadweard Muybridge. I’ve always thought of Rare DM as Man Ray’s ideal muse, whose work also helped establish the tone for the video. " <3 Watch the full vid in my bio!
