🩸🩸🩸🍇🐇ALICE IS OUT🩸🩸🩸🐇🔪🎀

and it’s all about womanhood ! and rage ! and desperately concealing the two !

This song is so so special to me. I wrote it a couple years ago with Olive, the most wonderful friend and writing partner I could ask for. We’ve worked together since I was 15 and most of what I’m putting out over the next year wouldn’t be possible without her - and of course Bobby on production and Robby on adprod/mix. I appreciate you all immensely @oliv.rg @bbgmusicclub @robbydesa

AND THE VIDEOOOOO
which I absolutely adore. It is exactly what I pictured in my head the day we wrote the chorus. I can’t thank Matty enough for bringing that idea to life, and Nick for the edit. You are both wildly talented and I can’t wait to see what you do next. and to James, James, and Matty, thank u thank u thank u.

This week’s Wild One, ‘Alice’, is an emotional, atmospheric release from nineteen year old Eora-based songwriter @theadoretheadore

‘Alice’ is the second release for the artist this year and a follow up for THEÅDORE’s (or Lucinda to her friends) debut single ‘Blind Surgeon’, which was released back in April. The track explores the turbulent landscape of being a young woman and the expectations attached to it.

The accompanying music video was conceptualised and co-directed by THEÅDORE herself, alongside fellow Eora-based creative, cinematographer @mattyower

It’s rich, textural and colourful, with the ripples of pool water, blades of grass and reflective light casting a shimmer of kinetic energy throughout each scene. “I wanted the video for Alice to mirror the duality of girlhood” Lucinda explains, “the beauty and fragility as well as the violence, havoc and uncertainty that surrounds it - and above all, the paralysing pressure to mask this.”

“Lucinda had a strong vision for the story telling involved for this piece” Matty adds, “We aspired to compliment the themes of her messages by leaning into dramatic but naturalistic lighting of beautiful yet eerie landscapes. We designed this abstract scene linking the bloody textures in her hands by rolling a glass jar full of honey and berries in slow motion using a probe lens on a dolly. The surrealism intending to direct the viewer’s emotional gaze to the passion of her story in her music. I am honoured to have been able to work with Lucinda in telling her stories. She’s one to watch”

PS. We hope only one iPod was harmed during the filming of this music video.

Thanks to DP Matty Ower for sending through some BTS from this music video for @azureryder, shot on his new ALEXA Mini. Here’s what he had to say:

“Colour has always been a pillar of particular importance to me and my work. When we began looking for locations to fit Azure’s story in her music I knew we would be searching for a particular tonal spiritual extraction from them. To me this meant each scene needed to carry a key state of emotion; visually. We leant into this by shooting her story during hours of ambient light that reflected the energy in her music. I decided to shoot the project on ALEXA. The way in which an ALEXA sensor reads colour was just perfect for allowing the spaces we chose to shoot in, showcase their moody spirits. With decisions being made to shoot in high contrast and low light scenarios, I wanted to work with a camera that would preserve colour detail and dynamic range to the highest possible standard. A warm gratitude to the team for helping us hit the mark with this piece!”
