Maus Bullhorst (1988) is an Dutch illustrator.
Inspired by stained glass and sci-fi movie posters, Maus Baus creates unusual editorial illustrations for newspapers and magazines in and outside The Netherlands. To him, an illustration is not a literal translation from text to image, but it creates a deeper level.

Another artwork on his page "The 7 Sins of Brabant" was inspired by a painting called "The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things" by Jheronimus Bosch (1450-1516). It was the first time Maus Baus's art set foot in a church. This 7 hatch was commissioned by the province of Brabant to create awareness about our every day modern sins.

Great work by @bausmaus for a @herien_wensink x @heinijanssen story about #actorcouples - they can do what other #actors can’t because of #corona: performing close to each other on stage. What #plays would be ideal for which #couple? Beautiful #cover and follow-up for this story on #rites and #rituals such as #marriage, #birth and #death, for which we have to find other ways to #celebrate because of new rules and #socialdistancing. 8 of Spades by Maus Baus @bausmaus (Netherlands) for #playingartschallenge.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"In the future of 2120, Nature will make a comeback on it's own. With flesh-eating plants, trees going back to their roots, and presidents growing bald. No need for recycling, when the cycle of life is on infinity mode. It's our only job to design robots, while nature protects itself. Now robots are living in the woods, we feel even more, that Big Brother is watching us. Can we resist the luring snake for tempting us to take a bite? Or this will start all over again."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maus Bullhorst creates editorial illustrations for Dutch media such as Trouw, De Correspondent and VPRO Gids. To him, an illustration is not a literal translation from text to image, but it creates a deeper level. He explores the abstraction of the figurative: how far can he diverge from natural forms and still maintain a human figure instead of a batch of blocks? Because of his work, it may happen that next time we pass a crane, we see an arm with a gripping claw instead.
