Practicing journalism has never been more daunting. From autocracies to democracies, actors with an interest in silencing the media are hard at work, seeking to stifle the free flow of information. Journalism education institutions are uniquely positioned to use their academic independence, professional networks, and advocacy resources to empower the next generation of journalists, enabling them to confront the array of challenges facing the press.

At the upcoming annual conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (@aejmc) in New Orleans, Louisiana, a panel will examine the critical role of journalism schools in protecting First Amendment safeguards amid mounting pressures on nonprofits, public institutions, and independent media.

I am delighted to be joined by a distinguished lineup of panelists, including Nicole Kraft (@nicolekraft) of @OhioState’s @ohiostatecomm, Anita Varma (@anitawrites28) of @utjschool and @engagingnews, and Matthew Kendrick (@matthew.kendrick) of @thisweekonice. This event will be moderated by Maven Navarro (@mavennavarro), the 2024-26 editor-in-chief of @thecrimsonwhite.

Shukran Morocco!!

Crazy to think just two years ago I randomly decided to sign up for an Arabic class, having no prior knowledge of the language or the culture. Now I have just completed my month abroad in Morocco! I am so grateful to have had such an awesome opportunity, and I look forward to seeing what other opportunities are to come. Dima Maghreb! ❤️🇲🇦
