![Puri’s Gosani Jatra is one of Odisha’s distinctive and centuries-old traditions associated with Durga Puja. Unlike the usual Durga Puja celebrations, Puri is renowned for its magnificent Gosani idols, representing different forms of Goddess Durga, worshipped by the traditional neighbourhoods known as Sahis. These idols are unique for their powerful expressions, distinctive postures, traditional decorations and depictions of Goddess Durga defeating Mahishasura. Each Gosani has its own identity, name and local traditions, reflecting Puri’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. On Vijaya Dashami, the celebrations reach a special moment as the deities take part in grand processions, accompanied by traditional music and the devotion of thousands of people. The Gosani idols later gather near the Jagannath Temple on Ekadashi before the traditional immersion rituals. More than a religious festival, Gosani Jatra represents the living heritage of Puri, bringing together Shakti worship, local folklore, artistic craftsmanship and generations of devotion
