“I hate football.” Those words have crossed my mind more times than I can count. The early mornings, the pain, the exhaustion, they made me question why I ever started. But in the weight room with my teammates, on the practice field with my friends, and under the Friday night lights with my brothers, I realize I never truly hated it. Football has broken me down and built me back up. It’s taught me perseverance, faith, and leadership, lessons that go far beyond the field. As it is said in Romans 5:3-4, “We glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” I thought I hated football, but really, I just didn’t understand how much it loved me back.
