The Hazard Bears LOVE @libby.bove.arts and @museumofroadsidemagic 🚧

Still feeling the ripples from last weeks mad romps around the country in our trusty steed Constance. She has happy memories of being rescued by an actual Roadwytch, so there was nothing better than collaborating on Libby’s latest art film Roadwytch 💫

We ran a workshop at the weekend, getting into our bodies and voices together…from this embodied place we shared our approach to soundscaping this project. It was a delight to be in the room with the work and such curious folk…thanks for having us 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️🤎🖤🤍

@staffordshirest houses Libby’s work until 4.10 (10-6 wed-sun) it’s a treasure trove and more events are on the agenda, GO!

Crossbones Day of Dance, 22nd March🪿

Crossbones Graveyard and Garden of Remembrance is a historic burial site, located near London Bridge, in an area once known as The Mint, one of the poorest slums in London. Crossbones is supposedly the resting place of many medieval sex workers, known as the 'Winchester Geese', licensed and regulated by the Bishop of Winchester, who were denied a Christian burial and instead buried at Crossbones.

The site was closed in 1853, after being "completey overcharged with dead" holding the remains of approximately 15,000 people. The eastern side of the site was partially excavacted in the 90's, to make way for an electricity substation as part of the Jubilee Line extension.

Since then, and as a result of a vision that led him to Crossbones, John Crow wrote The Southwark Mysteries and then with the Friends of Crossbones, transformed the site into a shrine and garden of remembrance.

Crossbones Day of Dance was the second annual event, organised by @maxcrowreeves , to commemorate the 'outcast dead' with poetry, morris dancing a healing spell and a folk parade around the block.

In support of our Poorly Artist @antonia_attwood , The Poorly Project paid a visit to @bethlemgallery ‘s ongoing exhibition ‘The Places We Know: Selected Works from the Bethlem Gallery Art Collection’ 🎨

As part of the exhibition, Antonia showcases ‘Enthesitis’ - which exists as part of the ongoing series ‘Maybe it was the chicken pox?’.

Unravelling the quandaries of living with chronic health conditions like psoriasis and psoriatic arthiritis, ‘Enthesitis’ creates a visual knot between what occurs within nature and the chronically-ill human body.

Photographing a tree burl - a protective yet bulbous formation resulting from the profilerarion of wood cells when faced with external damage, infection or environmental stress - Antonia analogises this instance within nature to psoriasis and psoriatic arthiritis.

Alongside Antonia’s work, the exhibition features the works of fellow artists and kind friends of The Poorly Project.

We will be sharing more from our visit to Bethlem Gallery 🏛️ Thank you for having us!

Crossbones Day of Dance
Presented by Max Crow Reeves and the Friends of Crossbones, in association with Bankside Open Spaces Trust.

From folk dancing to poetry to live performances, we honour the outcast dead at Crossbones.

Crossbones Garden of Remembrance stands on a historic burial ground in Southwark. For centuries, the poorest Londoners were laid to rest here. Today, we gather not in silence alone, but in shared presence.

Crossbones Day of Dance brings movement and memory together. Dance sides step into the garden. Poetry is spoken at the gates. Music fills the space with care and intention.

Through rhythm and word, we remember those excluded in life and forgotten in death. We hold history. We create community. We keep the story visible.

If you cannot join this event, you can attend the monthly vigil which is organised by the Friends of Crossbones, and they gather on the 23rd of every month at 7pm at the gates on Redcross Way. All are welcome.
