Such a huge honour to be a part of Tom’s new record.

This really felt like a moment of arrival for me. After so many years grinding and spending every free moment in the studio whilst working full time jobs, missing important family and life moments dreaming of a life as a full time engineer. To spend a month surrounded by such inspiring and kind individuals making great music was the definition of a privilege.

Growing up I’d also always dreamed of spending everyday in the studio and never thought it was something that actually happens to people.

There were so many moments during the tracking of this album that were genuinely life changing. I especially remember myself and Christoph silently crying in awe during the live takes for ‘Wonderful Life’, and a true feeling of this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.

This album was also the first time myself and Christoph were in the same room since the tragic passing of my good friend and band mate Rachel. To share the studio space again as we once had with her, really felt like paying homage to the beautiful mark she’s made on every life she touched.

I’m so grateful that I get to do what I love everyday and i’ll treasure these memories for as long as i breathe.

Thank you so much to everyone involved, and @rakstudios for giving me such a beautiful home.

chase your dreams - beautiful people are chasing theirs too.

August part 1!
August is my third favorite month. Something about the excitement that summer is almost —but not quite—over adds a level of urgency that I appreciate and that I lean into. The days are still long but not quite long enough. The weather is still hot but there’s the cooling down at night that we especially feel at a mile high. There are certain types of perennials that are just starting to bloom, like they’ve patiently waited for the third act of summer to shine. And of course the tomatoes are finally ripe. Plus in this year’s version of August there’s loads of concerts, some family visit-time, I came upon the liner notes of a burned CD showing the top hits of the college radio station I DJed at, I went backstage at red rocks (thx @rohofoto), & took a new official work photo. Lots to really make this August a memorable one!

New music video for @tompeterodell - Ugly. One of many videos that we shot at @80sixltd studios, incorporating a large LED screen which became an inverted image of the box void we created for Don’t Let Me Go. The lyrics for Ugly are raw and brutally honest, so I wanted to create a video with a similarly bold yet simple approach. I dug through a load of old comments on Tom’s social media accounts (a mixture of positive and negative), which were then beautifully animated by @frasermuggeridgestudio. “Not just a reflection of people’s opinions”… I liked the idea that the comments could accumulate into a wall of text (not unlike a concrete poem) - the words, in their sheer number, become essentially meaningless - broken down and destroyed as they form the backdrop to the song’s cathartic climax.

I was sent to cover the Tom Odell & The Lumineers show at Hayden Homes Amphitheater. But while I was there, I had a full-blown existential awakening. You can read all about my experience in my review and see more photos at RacketMag.com.
