Yesterday was one of the toughest days I’ve had in sport not because of the course, but because of everything that happened before I even got going.

With the swim cancelled, we stayed positive and got it done the evening before thanks to @nath7084 in a local lake. Swim done. Focus on the bike. 🏊‍♂️➡️🚴‍♂️

Arriving at @ironman_uk (Ironman Leeds), I was buzzing seeing so many familiar faces from @crossfitleeds . I felt ready.

Then 500m into the bike, my gears stopped working.

I pulled over, went to the mechanic, and he believed the bike had gone into a safe mode due to a fault and needed a reset cable which was at home. At that point, my race looked over.

Then the CrossFit Leeds community stepped in.

@mjrawlo found me a replacement bike immediately, and @maxhall545 dropped everything to go and collect it. The officials even said I could start with the final rider if it arrived in time.

I walked to the start… alone… carrying my bottles… watching rider after rider go.

The final athlete started.

Two minutes later, Max arrived with the bike.

But it was too late. The start had closed. Rules are rules, and I completely respect the officials’ decision.

Just like that, my Ironman was over before it began. 💔

I was gutted all the training, sacrifices, and build-up gone in an instant.

Thankfully, I had friends racing their first Ironman, so I switched to support mode and watched them absolutely smash it. So proud of them. ❤️

When I got home, I plugged my bike in.

It powered straight up. Battery full.

The mechanic was likely right about a safe mode issue… but I’ll never know why it reset when I got home.

That made it even harder to process.

Massive thank you to @_ironmansam_ @stu_g123 @tom_carlin_88 @gaz3863 for their support, @mjrawlo for everything he tried, @nath7084 for getting the swim done, and Max for going above and beyond.

And huge congratulations to @drhackster @lucyordo @eggbaguette and @rg__interiors incredible performances! 🏅

I’m still gutted. Really gutted.

But for now: control the controllable, stay positive, and keep moving forward. ❤️

Yesterday was a huge pinch me moment ❤️ bucket list stuff!
2022 - severe bilateral hip dysplasia diagnosis... something I was born with.
Nov 2024 - periacetabular osteotomy surgery to correct my left hip... 2 weeks after signing up for my first Ironman.
The last 8 months I've worked my butt off alongside @liam._mcgregor and @redonpc to get my body in some form of readiness and I kept it shush because I honestly didn't know if I'd make the cuts. I've learnt to open water swim, started road cycling in February and had to actually learn to walk again post surgery nevermind complete more than a 10k run. But with the help of my coaches and fellow CrossFit Leeds members I got to the start line!
Swim - solid and steady.
Bike - horrendously hilly but went surprisingly well (I'm not a natural 🤣) but fuelling was rough.
Run - actually a plod/walk. My tummy had given up at this point!
I always dreamt of being an athlete but I've always felt like my body never wanted me to be successful (first my knee and now this medical condition). I might not be the athlete I dreamt of being as a kid but I am an Ironman (woman) now! Yeh budddyyyyy!!!
Sorry Mum and Dad... No marriage or grandkids yet... But I hope you enjoyed your stressful day out yesterday 🤣❤️🫶🏼
