Alt Max : 4629 meters

Finally made it to the famous Machu Picchu after 5 days of intense trekking, filled with laughters, lots of complaints, great encounters, wet cloches, injured knees but most of all amazing memories. Proud of this challenge !

Day 255 | Cotopaxi to Latacunga 🇪🇨|
Ruminahui tra le nuvole 🌋☁️

Decided to set off on another tough hike, this time to the crater of a volcano—Rumiñahui (which means “Stone Face” in Quechua)—once again with a view of Cotopaxi. Hopefully, the weather will be on our side, as we were quite lucky yesterday.

Volcanic rocks everywhere as soon as we enter the park. Wild horses grazing freely among the rocks, but unfortunately, the weather isn’t great. Hopefully, it will improve throughout the day because, for now, we can’t see a thing.

A very challenging climb up to 4,676 meters, surrounded by Andean condors and other birds, with an unbearable cold due to the rain and wind. We finally reach the summit of the toughest climb I’ve ever done to see the volcano’s crater—and, of course, it’s completely cloudy. What a load of crap, but at least in good company.

Day 253 & 254 | Quito to Cotopaxi 🇪🇨| 1/2 |
Waterfall Hike & Passo Ochoa 🏔️🌋

Extraordinary place surrounded by vast meadows and four volcanoes, including the most famous one, Cotopaxi. A senseless all-inclusive hostel, feeding llamas, all gathered around the fire roasting marshmallows, forming beautiful friendships in a very homey atmosphere.

Waking up to a view of the surreal volcano. I beg the manager to gift me Wi-Fi so I can call my mom and wish her a happy birthday. Mission accomplished. A champion’s breakfast, and off we go for an incredible 6-hour hike on Pasochoca. First time at 4,200 meters, feeling a bit tired and dealing with a slight headache due to the altitude, but an incredible experience with breathtaking views over the entire valley.
