Well, here we are — my journey on @phmuseum CURAE, under the guidance of @erik.kessels Erik Kessels, has come to an end.

It was an incredible eight months of work, doubts, discoveries, and production. I created two new projects and three exhibition concepts. I don’t think I have ever had such a productive period.

Huge thanks to Erik Kessels, who gave me the kick I needed and brought back the creative ambition I had lost in refugee life and financial uncertainty. Erik is an extraordinary mentor: he pulled out things I had been hiding and showed me how they could work.

Thank you to the PhMuseum team for creating educational programs.

@rosalacavalla Rosa — you are incredible. Thank you for taking care of us, making everything work, connecting us, preparing materials, and being there with advice — even during your holidays.

Huge thanks to @goliverio_ Giuseppe Oliverio for seeing in me a potential participant and for giving me the PhMuseum scholarship that made this possible. Without you, none of this would have happened.

Our group may have been the biggest inspiration of all. Every artist and photographer in it is a whole universe, with their own voice, style, kindness, curiosity, and support. @marynashtanko @antigoni_papantoni @linzi.bugeja @aiess @kathyanne.lim @charalambosartemis @elisagarosi @damgaard_louise @dumitrita_razlog @baratzka

Please go to their Instagram pages — you will discover new worlds there. And watch the project presentations; Please visit PhMuseum’s YouTube channel and watch our CURAE 2025/26 project presentations there.

Honestly, I feel sad it is over. These eight months passed like one second. I will miss our calls, and I dream that one day we will all meet. I hug you all and send you my love.

Why Enroll In The PhMuseum Online Masterclasses Program

Established in 2020, the PhMuseum five Online Masterclasses aim to help participants develop and conclude a body of work and establish a sustainable, long-lasting creative practice. Each course caters to a specific field of contemporary image-making: while MEDIAE focuses on transmedia storytelling, CRITICAE delves in documentary photography, and FOLIO explores photobook-making. CURAE is aimed at artistic development, while IDEA is centered on conceptual thinking.

With applications for the 2026/27 cycle open until 28 May – and the deadline for fully funded scholarships approaching tonight, 30 April, at 11:59 pm GMT – we’ve highlighted a few reasons why you should consider applying to the program.

POST HUMAN - LINK IN BIO 🔗

A collaborative publication between @siilkgallery and @stuckmagazine

“Set against the backdrop of a modern-day dystopia - a world engulfed in war, climate crises, social divides, and reversals of hard-won progress - Post Human presents a collection of images that probe the meaning of humanity in the digital age. This anthology showcases works by selected artists as they grapple with what it means to be human amid rapid technological advances, exploring how they navigate their creative landscapes in light of the challenging world we inhabit through the medium of photography. Whether through literal or abstract, digital or analog interpretations, Post Human offers a visual narrative that captures each artist’s unique vision of their world, dreams, and reality. These artists bring their full perspectives into their work, articulating their beliefs, social positions, and storytelling styles in ways that reflect both their individuality and their times.”

Maxim Zmeyev “ID 2.100.”
As part of the group exhibition “In-Between Identities”
At MASA Gallery

You’re invited to experience ID 2.100. — an installation positioned exactly where the official self meets its invented versions.

Seeking a French residence permit after becoming a refugee in 2022, the artist fed a Photomaton booth not a real face but 100 avatars inspired by documentary images of displaced people. The state’s facial-recognition software validated these fictions while archiving the real portrait as the 101st image.

Each 10×15 cm print merges the bureaucratic, the virtual and the biographical — a passport photo, a videogame skin and a wartime news image sharing one fragile surface. By multiplying and glitching the portrait, ID 2.100. questions what remains of identity when it becomes data scattered across databases, booths and metaverses.

Enroll in CURAE - @phmuseum Online Masterclass On Artistic Development led by artist, designer and curator @erik.kessels

In an era of digital noise, we have all become editors of our own lives – filtering our feeds and polishing our personas. But true curation goes deeper than that. The 5th edition of the masterclass reclaims the original meaning of CURAE: the act of taking care. Through a mix of provocative seminars and hands-on practice, Kessels will challenge you to curate your own path and work on the possibilities and obstructions you will face in your artistic professional career.

Upon the program's conclusion, one or more participants across the five PhMuseum Masterclasses will be selected for a solo or duo exhibition at @phmuseumlab in Bologna, Italy, and for an extensive feature in the third issue of our printed Annual.

Present your candidature at phmuseum.com/m26 before 30 April to secure the Early Bird fee, and be considered for the 5 fully-funded scholarships.

We invite you to the opening event of the group exhibition "In-Between Identities" in the salon-gallery MASA on September 11 from 18:00.

The exhibition brings together 13 artists from 6 countries, exploring self-representation as a point of tension between subjective experience and how the self is constructed through outward perception. Drawing on psychological and cultural frameworks, the works reflect identity not as a fixed truth but as a layered process, influenced by internal mechanisms, external gazes and even technological mediation.
