Charlene had the absolute pleasure and privilege to attend the unveiling of this incredible Windrush artwork by Jay Angelo in Leicester this week.

For those who arrived on the Windrush and the generations that followed, it’s an important part of our shared history.

Sadly, it’s not taught in schools which is why we always have to advocate and remember these important events in British history.

Jay Angelo is passionate about sharing this story and history with his own generation and he does that amazingly well through his artwork.

Go and visit this piece in Leicester library while you can! 🙌🏾

Children of Jacob 2025
UV Print on Dibond + Animation + music scored by Angelo

This piece was commissioned by @kaine_mgt and @leicesterwindrushconsortium for Leicester Library celebrating the Windrush Generation. This piece is close to my heart and explores my heritage as a British born Son of Barbados, Antigua and St Vincent 🇧🇧🇦🇬🇻🇨. It explores the hidden history of the Jacobite, Moorish and Bantu peoples who were taken to the Caribbean between 1492 - Late 1700s and some of their pre slavery Afro European histories. It celebrates the Windrush descendants of these powerful peoples who contributed to the rebuilding of this country after the war and for those who came home after 400 years of exile and added another chapter to the rich and complex history between west Africa, the Caribbean and the British isles. You can see my grandparents in the top right ❤️🪽
