DANGER ZONE Shoulders
Shoulders don’t usually struggle in the middle of the range; it’s the extremes that test them.

Overhead, 90/90, reaching back, and those I-Y-T angles all rely heavily on the rotator cuff and scapula to keep the joint centred and controlled. Research shows most instability happens in these high-abduction, high-external rotation positions, especially when strength and control at end range haven’t been restored.

A big part of this is scapulothoracic mechanics. To move overhead safely, the scapula must upwardly rotate, posteriorly tilt, and glide smoothly. When it can’t, the humeral head shifts forward, reducing stability and increasing that “unstable” feeling overhead.

The exercises shown here build control where it matters most in OH positions.
Restricted dowel OHP trains clean mechanics and stable end-range positioning.
BB BNT shoulder press is progressed only once mobility and control are solid, strengthening the exact angles people are often weakest in.
Cable single arm press adds unilateral stability, promoting natural scapular movement and trunk control.

Paired with IYT variations, these help restore scapular upward rotation, posterior tilt, and confidence at the edges of range. As strength improves, overhead movement becomes smoother, stronger, and more resilient.

The goal isn’t just strong delts - it’s a shoulder complex that feels stable and capable in every position.

Get around Jonty & Max who attended the @easternfnl Junior Presentation Night last night 🐏

Jonty came home with the goods in the Under 17.5 B division and Max placed 3rd in the Under 15 B’s.

We look forward to what the future holds for these two stellar footballers 🖤🤍
