Welcome to #WHYSKWEDNESDAY featuring Maylanie Rodriguez! 💐🤍

Maylanie was initiated into Sigma Kappa during Fall 2025! She is currently an upcoming sophomore studying Public Health at Cal State Fullerton. Even though she has only been initiated last fall, she has been heavily involved in our chapter and currently is the Director of Panhellenic Relations. Read below to learn more about Maylanie’s recruitment experience and why she chose Sigma Kappa!

“I initially planned to go through recruitment in Fall 2025 because I wanted to find a community where I could thrive and build meaningful friendships. As someone who was shy in high school, I saw college as an opportunity to branch out, meet new people, and become the person I aspired to be.

During recruitment, the conversations I had with Sigma Kappa members felt genuine and reminded me that I was more than just my involvement and accomplishments. On the very first day of recruitment, I spoke with my now-big about my goals and hobbies, even something as simple as Roblox! It was a small conversation, but it stayed with me throughout the entire recruitment process.

I was drawn to Sigma Kappa because of its values of personal growth, friendship, loyalty, and service. Since joining, I have found a support system that encourages me to step outside my comfort zone and pursue new opportunities. I currently serve as Director of Panhellenic Relations, a role that has helped me build a stronger connection to the Panhellenic community. Later this month, I will also have the opportunity to attend the Sigma Kappa Convention in St. Louis.

Sigma Kappa gave me exactly what I was searching for: a place to belong, grow, and become the best version of myself. The experiences, friendships, and opportunities I have gained have shaped me in ways I will always be grateful for.” — Maylanie

Don’t forget to register for Primary Recruitment by September 13th! The link is in our bio. 💫
