NAAG ( 2023 ) - Early explorations for the Maya Narrative Universe Right after getting some mileage on GARUDAS, I wanted to bring some context on the physicality of Naags. The personality of Naags as described by the team at that point ( briefs might have changed since then) ,was that they are essentially the Mafias of this world. So I wanted to explore sleek, agile forms, while keeping a gritty vibe to them. I always explore their silhouettes and proportions through very tough iterations. NOTE ON MY SKETCHING PROCESS: I am not good at making very refined sketches, because "painting" is where I want to thrive. So I go through quick, imperfect iterations so that it gives me enough context about what I would like to present as a final design. This is also somewhere i actually played a bit with gravity sketch, using VR Goggles ( big hugs to @karthik.bh for lending me his headset🫂) . I actually found this process extremely fun! Getting to see your sculpts at real world scale, and making /unmaking them without clicking mouse buttons inside your own room is the stuff of Science Fiction! I actually found this process extremely fun! Getting to see your sculpts at real world scale, and making /unmaking them without clicking mouse buttons inside your own room is the stuff of Science Fiction Here is another render of the idea, exploring a shimmery bust! This one was particularly a tricky one! The attempt was to find a sweet balance between human and reptilian features! I went through tons of old photographic research of tribal Indian folks, and find certain proportions to make them feel a bit more authentically " Indian" ( don't know if I was successful) Thank you for all the appreciation for the Garuda illustrations! It truly inspired me to post more work , and hopefully it gave you a glance into my workflow in an actual entertainment production process! ©The Department of Lore

About *The Only Good Indians* A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER From bestselling author Stephen Graham Jones comes a “masterpiece” (Locus Magazine) of a novel about revenge, cultural identity, and the cost of breaking from tradition. This is a remarkable horror story that “will give you nightmares—the good kind of course” (BuzzFeed). From New York Times bestselling author Stephen Graham Jones comes a novel that is equal parts psychological horror and cutting social commentary on identity politics and the American Indian experience. Fans of Sylvia Moreno Garcia and Tommy Orange will love this story as it follows the lives of four American Indian men and their families, all haunted by a disturbing, deadly event that took place in their youth. Years later, they find themselves tracked by an entity bent on revenge, totally helpless as the culture and traditions they left behind catch up to them in a violent, vengeful way. In this “thrilling, literate, scary, [and] immersive” (Stephen King) tale, Jones blends his signature storytelling style with a haunting narrative that masterfully intertwines revenge, cultural identity, and tradition. About *The Exorcism of Faeries* The first in a haunting dark academia romance series about a graduate student studying botany in Dublin who falls for her professor of morbid anatomy, as they are drawn into a deadly plague threatening their world—perfect for fans of Ninth House and An Academy for Liars.
