This week in my “Advanced Lightroom: Editing for Emotion” class @chicagophotoclasses with @alanshapiro515, I had to select a photo and edit it instinctively with the natural story that came to mind… and then also edit it uncomfortably, in a non-instinctive, unfamiliar way. I used many color tools and also some Geometry tools to convey these stories/emotions.

Edit 1 was my instinct: something ancient that continues to endure for thousands of years— sturdy, like a protective fortress, supporting you into the future.
Edit 2 was uncomfortable: something ancient, crumbling, falling apart, leaving you vulnerable and unprotected, leaving you alone to endure, even when the walls are coming down.

Or, if you’re my brilliant daughter @mayalevis86, they look like:
Edit 1: “Gladiator”
Edit 2: “Hogwarts”
🤣🥰💯

The Arles Amphitheatre, built around 90 AD, is a massive, two-tiered Roman arena that once held over 20,000 spectators for gladiator contests and hunts, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
